    Local Delivery Conversion

Not sure what the wood in this conversion was, but the color and the brightness of the veneers were great to work with. Going to a local home. Lots of ivory and an elephant ear wrap. Final buff and bumper and it's out the door.

    one piece cores

The point being made, is that if you do the core to tight tolerances, it probably really doesn't matter. But if you are using GG to fill up loose tolerances, you are probably giving upsomething. Whether it be strength or tone. Eric goes to great lengths to get the proper fit. A lot of...

    Omega DPK , A-Joint Revealed

Dpk Rick, Thanks for sharing. Again proving a lot of ways to skin a cat. Thomas would know for sure, but I'm pretty sure that's not the way Gus did it. He had phenolic at the A joint, but not going up and into the forearm or handle. Haven't heard of many dpk's breaking at the A joint, so...

Help!!? 5/16x14 Shaft Insert pulled out-Stripped out Wood>!

Help Any insert can be stripped out if you twist hard enough. Doesn't matter if the pilot bottoms out or not. We will never know for sure why it failed. Could have been cross threaded going in the first time. I have a palmer right now that the brass insert broke off half way down inside the...

    Could I break even

Could So for 5.00 you are going to put up with hacks that say the point blanks weren't even, and the wood quality was bad, and the veneer colors are dull. Go for it.

    What finish

Don't know about the Balabushka oil finish. Seems I've heard spray lacquer a time or two. I've restored two balabushka, and the finish just melted away with lac thinner. Won't comment on epoxy, haven't used it, but have refinihed a lot of epoxy finished cues. With the statement, that these...

Is cue shaft sealer, simply white glue?

sealer Shellac, padding lacquer, or poly wood sealer all work. You have to decide which you like best. Try theim all. Here's my opinion on them. Shellac is easy to use, but doesn't hold up if the user isn't neat with the shaft and keep them waxed. Alcohol and hand oils tend to soften it...

WTB: Bowling Alley Wood & Micarta (Question)

So does bowling alley wood come with a serial number. How would you ever know it was old growth. How did you decide it plays better and won't warp as easy. I honestly am looking to find the scientific source of these claims. Hey if you want the stuff, go for it. Just want to see if I've...

    Quiet Router

The noise difference is the difference between a brushed motor and a brushless motor. The nsk is brushless. Most bearings are pretty quiet until they get worn. You don't want to get tinnitus, I spent close to 30 years around aircraft and I have it. Only time I don't hear ringing is when I'm...

    Gaboon vs "regular" Ebony

Above is the correct answer. Gaboon tends to have brown undertones. Indian tends to have silver streaks. Sri Lanka I believe has a ban on all wood exports, so no more of the good stuff.

    Juma glue

How about a heat deflection number of 101 degree F. Mercaptan, that's what makes the epoxy gel faster, it also loves moisture and will continue to attract it. Strength isn't necessarily the problem.

    one piece cores

Let me start out by saying, this is my opinion. I don't like gg for cores, just for the reason that most people use it. It foams up and fills the gap between the core and outer parts of the cue. Take a piece of wax paper, put on gg and a lite mist of water. When it dries drop the foam on the...
