Thank you all for the replies. I have a central machinery 12x36. I am not using a backup chuck so mounting a plate there is not an option.

I need to be able to index my lathe and plan to modify it for that purpose. I have found two basic concepts and would appreciate opinions. One is to drill indents into the backup plate. And the other is to add a plate behind the back up plate. What are your thoughts? What, in your opinion...

That's my question exactly. I know it FEELS different, but will it actually perform different. I always thought that the feel is my interpretation of what the cue is doing, so if you like a more solid or mechanical or softer feel the joint is where that change is affected. But given two...
