    I like this idea

I recently added a step to my shot routine, and that is making a point to consciously notice the space between the CB and OB. What this did for me was give me peace of mind of how much room I can push the tip past the OB, and it ended up slowing down my stroke, removed the jerky/punch, and...

Holding the cue ball and missing

In the past 6 years since picking up a cue for the first time I've come from a non-pool-player to atleast a C+ when playing under pressure. I'm confident and aware of my stroke and body line, and don't need to work on those much anymore. I know I'm capable of A speed (50+ balls out of 100 in 10...

    Speed on 15 Ball Rotation

I'd like to test my average speed using 15 ball rotation. Anyone have any good formats to try? (I've been practicing using American Rotation; racked 15 in front, 2 and 3 below, 1 in middle, 13 and 14 below... ball in hand after break (-2 points for a scratch), 1 point for balls 1-10, 2 points...

    shaving a phenolic tip

I put one on a cheap 16oz Action cue with superglue. Wow! what a good break cue it turned into! Best way to shave down the tip overhang? Its phenolic so a$15 cutter might not work well. Sandpaper and 20 minutes maybe?

Using Beads to Score American Rotation

Using Beads to Score American Rotation Scoring apps for American Rotation are available for smartphones and Windows. For those of you who don't have access to these, or simply have reservations about the entire game itself BECAUSE there is scoring, then maybe this little trick will help you...

    Yayyy, ok I'm convinced now.

I'm right handed. cross-eye dominant. I use both eyes, center under the chin, and don't really think eye dominance matters much for sighting. But what I think cross-eye DOES do is align your body differently than if you were same-sided. Now after watching this video of Neils Feijen, I'm...

    Ten Ball Break-N-Run Video #1

Let's call this video #1. This is a good representation of my average speed, pressure from camera included, of where I am now. Scored 46/100, my goal was 50. There's a lot of critiquing I want to do right away, but I'll stay quiet and let you do that for me. I'm confident I can do even better...

    setting cue ball in motion

    1. Point on the surface of the cue ball. 2. Angle and pitch of impact vector. 3. Velocity of impact vector. Curious... does anybody believe that there is anything OTHER than these three responsible for setting the cue ball in motion? What are they? What is YOUR opinion? EDIT: Thanks guys...

    I guess I don't get it.

I've been thinking about this for a while. There’s been a lot of talk and opinions about what needs to happen in pool for it to become something greater than it is now. I'm trying to take a step back and understand the motivations behind what players want the pool industry to be, and I can't...

Ode to Dan: Custom Pool Room

My wife and I bought a split-level home with a 25'x30' unfinished lower room. I've been inspired so much by dsoriano's Custom Pool Room, that the unfinished room was a large factor in purchasing the home. I plan on creating my own custom pool room as an ode to all that dsoriano shared with us in...

    English on shots without rail

I am a rare data point, I think. I've had the privilege of joe tucker teaching me how to play, and he has a different philosophy than other instructors; its backwards. He emphasizes teaching sidespin immediately, especially to brand new players. The idea is that side spin is such an important...

    Figured it out.

All this time, for years, I wasn't following through. Thought I was, really did. And that was it. All my other problems went away. I stumbled upon how it is supposed to be by accident. Spent so many years changing this and that, always returning to the same problem. Never made sense to me...

    Help me find a sconce

Here's my conceptual artwork for the pool room: www.abiscus.com/house/recroom I'm having trouble visualizing how different types of sconces would look. Does anybody have any sconce pictures they feel would work well here? Thanks

The Problem of Thinking Too Much

I'm one of the worst over-thinkers I know. Not just in pool. For those of you who are like me, this article may help you tone it down a notch. Skip to the last page for rules of thumb if you don't want to even think about thinking...

    Non-permanent rack outline?

Any solutions for this exist? Thinking a projection of the triangle using a lamp or laser from overhead, opposed to marking the cloth in some way. Whats out there? Would anyone buy it?

    High correlation of dominant

I'm convinced that the discussion of eye dominance always ends with preference. Near 100% shaft-DE correlation brings me peace of mind since it removes some of the 3D information while I'm down on the ball. But I wasn't yet convinced that it was the right choice for me, until I saw THIS picture.

Discovery of subtle error helped me

Maybe a little complicated, but its not. Learned that moving my hand to the contact point instead of to the center of the ball makes a big difference. Maybe it'll help you too?

    I'm weird.

I finally realized that I don't like playing pool with other people. I would rather keep to myself and play 14.1, and never have to sit down. My goals for pool are completely personal. Does anyone else feel this way?
