    Billiard Books Questions/Reviews/Recommendations

I found Byrne's Standard and Capelle's Play Your Best Pool to be the most thorough with all the basics. Capelle goes into a little more detail, but that might be because he didn't split his book between pool and 3-cushion billiards...(?). But I'd say they're both very good books, no doubt...

What are the best pool games, and why ?

Straight Pool and One-Pocket i absolutely agree on 14.1 and 1-Pocket. As many have already said, the former game shows pool at its most pure, at the very essence of the game; that is, to just keep pocketing balls. It's great for a longer playing session, because you just keep playing and...

What I hate about televised WPBA

Pool on ESPN Classic I thought the exact same thing a few days ago. Just think...Sports-Century features on Greenleaf, Mosconi, Crane, Mizerak, etc...they could do billiards as well: Hoppe, Ceulemans, Schaefer (Sr. and Jr.); I'm sure everybody else on this forum can name other greats they'd...

What is your TV game you want to see

I agree that nine-ball has a virtual monopoly on Tv pool (with the exception of the trick shot shows). It's a game of high skill (despite the luck factor, mostly due to the fact that you can sink the nine and win the game without going through the whole rack, IMO.). And it sure isn't going to...

    Sigel's 150 and out

re: format It's in VHS only, they only started doing DVD for the past year or so. No idea if their back catalog will get the newer format ayntime soon. I'm not sure how long it would take to ship overseas, though.

    Straight Pool Tournaments...

Yeah, I forgot to say that I have that match as well, from the '92 Open. The other two I have, from the 2000 Open, are Souquet vs. Chin in the finals, and the Rempe vs. San Souci player review. I have yet to watch Sigel's 150 and out, but tomorrow's supposed to be below zero...so I think I...

    Straight Pool Tournaments...

Any big tournaments in 14.1 taking place this year? Grady Matthews holding his Heroes of One-Pocket/14.1 event again? If they have a big Straight Pool event, Accu-Stats should go there and tape every match! :D I have a couple matches of theirs from the 2000 US Open...good stuff to say the...

What Size Table do you play on?

10-footers Speaking of 10-footers, what is the high run on that length? I might have read or heard somewhere that it was Mosconi but not totally sure... Also, around what year did they stop having major tournaments such as World Championship matches on them; late 40s early 50s? ~Matt

    straight pool

Re: Re: Re: straight pool When the BCA refused to continue to put on and sponsor the world championship in NYC a few years ago, that all but put the game in retirement. In a few years, it will just be a memory. -Hi, this is my first post here. I shot pool on and off during high school and...
