    John Grissim's book Billiards

Information just didn't move as fast nor was it as widespread back in those days. There may have been somebody at that first tournament that had read the book and seen the picture, but I doubt it. It took a while to gain notoriety 45 years ago. Besides, Efren is very "sneeky"...

Given the number of quality cues made in the last 20 years, why are so few available?

Well, I didn't have much time, so I could be off by 1 or 2 percent, but after an intensive, exhaustive flurry of research, there are 173,652.675 quality cues sitting in a closet collecting dust in this country. Where do I send the bill?

    Spraying Solarez

When I used to do ceramics, I used a glaze spray gun as the glaze was pretty thick stuff. As I remember, it didn't have much adjustability like on most spray guns, but it worked good for spraying glaze.

    New Word On UltraSkins

Seems there's a jerk in every crowd. Sounds like because you couldn't get a free sample or because he wouldn't sell them to you at more of a discount (like that's even needed, ya cheap bastard), you decide they aren't worth anything to anybody. Nice! Tom's a great guy and his tips play great as...

Is Max Eberle as big as a goof as I now think?

It seems that most of us use pointing out the flaws in others to help us cope with our own flaws...

Anyone know if Manwon (Craig W. Rittel) is still doing cue work?

Never met the man and don't know what he is currently up to. I do know he owned a pool hall in either Lakewood (pretty sure it was this one) or Lakeview Terrace, WA. I'm thinking Full Splice Billiards phone number is 12535126898. If it's the wrong place, they or Cue-topia may know how to get in...

We could certainly use more kindness around here. I'm glad you experienced some!

    Cue Weight Preference: 18, 19, 20, 21 ounce or?

When I was a young pup, I always played with the heaviest cue I could find, 22 oz if they had one, 21 if not. When I got older and got my own table & cues, I experimented with adding/removing weight to the butt and found that I liked a lighter cue better. Now I help make cues (do inlays) and...

    CNC Inlay

I am now using an offset to approximately level the cue, but sometimes have to do cues that the offset won't fit and I also did them for quite a while with no offset. You can safely cut pockets up to .5 inches wide and still have enough of a side wall on the outside edge to capture the inlay...

    Pool Ball Collecting.

Thanks to both of you for your replies! After reading the 2nd one, I realized that I've played snooker hundreds of times and even had my own 10' snooker table for a few years. I used to play with the larger pool balls on the snooker table, but never played snooker on the 9' pool table I had at...

    Pool Ball Collecting.

Sorry to interrupt (love the pictures), but I was thinking about playing with 21 balls last week and was wondering how they break and if the table ends up being too cluttered with that many balls on the table. It seems like it would be fun to play rotation with that many balls. Is it as fun as I...

idiosyncrasies that drive you nuts while playing.

Scotch doubles irritates me. Was playing with someone the other day. He wanted to shoot a combo, but I showed him how if he just did a stop shot on the duck I left him, I could clear our two balls that were tied up and we could get out. He slams it with tons of bottom right and ends up parked...

    Dave's Aiming Method (DAM)

Well, that's very impressive, Dave. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I've also come up with my own aiming system. It's called BOTCHED (for Bug On The Ceiling Having Erectile Dysfunction). Granted, it won't work for everyone as you have to have extraordinary visual acuity to put this...

    Pin size

You can either try to get the wood of the shaft to swell (pour some water into the cavity, let it sit a little while, then dump it out or try to stuff a wet rag or paper towel into it) or wrap some very thin tape around the pin. Don't know for sure if either of these methods would work, but may...

Billiard Trick Shot Artist and former Italian Police Becomes American Citizen

What a great guy! I've watched him play a few times (mostly trick shots) and can see he is a true gentleman and a credit to the sport.

    ABS Ivory

ABS is "Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) (chemical formula (C8H8)x· (C4H6)y·(C3H3N)z) is a common thermoplastic polymer. Its glass transition temperature is approximately 105 °C (221 °F).[2] ABS is amorphous and therefore has no true melting point. ABS is a terpolymer made by polymerizing...

Janette Lee AND Bass Pro Shops!

Hey, Scott! How's it hangin'? I agree. I have a picture of her here on the wall at work playing billiards and lots of people recognize her. Some have no idea what her name even is or the Black Widow, either. Just know she plays pool & it's not a very good picture of her. The one I have of her...
