Where did you first play pool, who taught you?

I kind of grew up in sports bars and played a bunch as a kid. But I took a pool class in college, believe it or not. It was taught by an apa 7, just some guy they hired to teach the class, not a prof. or anything. I learned in one semester pretty much all the fundamentals of pool and my...

Does anyone actually believe GAMBLING will

League Play I don't know if anyone has said this or not, but I felt more pressure playing in the regional APA tournament that any set I've ever played. DOn't get me wrong I'm pretty much a banger and play maybe a $50 set or two, but knowing if I lose my team doesn't go to Vegas, that huge...

    Table lights

A guy told me right that the bottom of the light should be right about at eye level. That way its not in your eyes. For my table it was about 40". It is perfect, not too high or low. I have 4, 8' bulbs, that might be too high for a different light, with incandecent bulbs

    Blue or Green?

i play on both. at my house i have traditional green. before i got my new light wtih 4 8' bulbs it was kind of dark, but now there seems to be much more contrast between the felt and the balls. i like it better than the tournament blue they have at the pool hall. with that said i dont...

    being beaten vs losing

self-fulfilling prophesy I've been there many times. "I knew I was going to dog that" "THere's a gift for you" "I guess i just don't want to win" Its all between the ears. Im no great player but if I know I can beat someone, I just go do it. Or at least I convince myself that I am going...

    McDermott & OB-1

I have a mcdermott and an ob1 and absolutly love it. I don't know what cue it is. I think it costs about $350 new. It has a lot of feel to it. But it isn't too soft. Anyone who has hit with my cue has liked it. I have a moori hard on it. Id say go for it. I have a lot more confidence...

    The Myth of Top Spin???

I don't think there is any part of the train that is moving in the opposite direction it is travelling. The closest anypart of the wheel would be to moving backwards is when a point on the wheel is at 6 oclock. Then it stops moving down towards the ground and moves up and forward away from it...

    The Myth of Top Spin???

It seems that if part of the cueball is moving backwards while moving forward that would mean the the cue ball is spinning faster than it is rolling. Which I thought Byrnes said wasn't possible.

    Dale Perry Cues

i was looking on ebay just at the ones he was selling with the certificate and all that. It seemed obvious to me that there selling a dozen cues at around $200 each = low quality. Thanks for you input. matt

    Dale Perry Cues

Does anyone know anything about his cues. I see he has like a million on ebay for real cheap. Are the junk or what? I don't see how a original cue can go for under $200.

    Billiards Books.

anything by robert byrnes is good. It has drills, fundamentals, shotmaking.etc. Google his name you should find some. Also every pool merchandise website has books and dvds for sale. rockwell, cheapcues etc Barnes and nobles or boarders have a small selection as well.

    sub rail extentions

I have seen many of you add a wooden shim to subrails to negate the need for rubber shims. THat is what I want to do when I get the dough. My triple shims play poorly. I have yet to find a mechanic locally that has done it. I am a decent wood worker, think I could fabricate the shims...

    Official Pool Etiquette?

I play with a guy, just for fun who, I call the maestro, Mr. Miagee, the professor. You know the type, about 60 years old, has read everybook, not afraid to share. Everything is ok in moderation but this guy is driving me nuts. Don't offer too much "advice". Whats that they say about...
