    Playing Pool While on Oxygen

Hello All, Due to a mis-spent youth smoking tobacco, I have developed emphysema and I am on constant oxygen. I am trying to adapt to using a backpack style oxygen bottle tote while playing pool and am wondering if there are any other players out there who are also on oxygen? Any advice would...

    Rule Question on Cribbage

Hello All, I am trying to remember the rules to Cribbage. Since I haven't played it or even seen it played in my area for over 30 years, I referred my query to the rule book. To me or perhaps I am reading it wrong, the rules seem vague. Nevertheless, here is my question(s): After the...

    Mosconi Caras

Thank-you for the video. I love watching the older champions play! Willie had more tolerance toward the referee than I. To me, the ref was a distraction (but I get distracted easily...lol).

    Tournament Dates?

Hello All, I know its early but does anyone know of the scheduled dates for the Maryland 14.1 Championship and the World 14.1 Tournament Qualifiers? I am planning my vacation and wish to watch or maybe even try to qualify for the World 14.1. Thanks.

how to get shafts white again??

Well, if you ask 10 people, you might get 10 different answers. I am no different so here is my recommendation. I use a nylon scratch pad; one which is used in the kitchen to remove the superficial gunk. For really soiled shafts, I have used 600 grit sandpaper but only lightly. After using...

soliciting opinions about cloths from you 14.1 boys

I have played on both Brunswick Gold Crown and Diamond Tables with Simonis. I have played on Diamond tables with Miliken. Personally, I prefer the Simonis. My friend had a humidity problem in his basement and bought an air conditioner that is also a dehumidifier. Seemed to help.

    Getting started with 14.1

Welcome to the best game available in pocket billiards! Like you, I enjoy the game but cannot find anyone who plays it in my area. Since John Schmidt no longer owns a poolhall in the immediate area, I miss seeing and playing the game. Well, I racked a lot while playing John…lol. Did I...

Opinion needed regarding tuning up my Schon

After a twenty some year break, I began shooting pool again. I used to shoot with a Richard Black but the cue was broken beyond repair back in 1990. I was going to have another Black made; however, I did not want to commit to a cue (and cost) that might sit idle in case I gave it up again. I...

    Goals for the next year

2012 Goals Regarding pool, I am trying to find the much needed time to practice 14.1 Continious and hopefully, yes--hopefully, shoot in a Qualifier for the Word 14.1 Tournament. When I was younger, I always wanted to play the Big Boys, at least just once. It would have been a dream to play...

    Question about 10 Ball

I need some help in settling a very minor dispute on the rules of 10 Ball and since I don't have a rule book handy, I am soliciting your help. Scenario: Opponent is at the table and chooses a combination shot -- the two ball into the six ball to the corner pocket. We realize it is a call...

A aggravating thing about handicap tourneys

Yep.... I see it all the time. Consider it the "Nature of the Beast" so to say. Handicap Systems can work, but seldom do. It has been my experience that those players who are closer in ranking tend to benefit from the handicap; however, if there is a larger gap between the two players'...

    What's your favorite tip?

Tips For the last two years, I have been shooting with a Sniper Medium and love the hit. Recently, I have tried and like alot, the Kamui Black (Soft). Really nice hit, grabs well; however, one has to used to the height of the tip. I'll let you know how the Kamui works out.

    What's your favorite game?

Favorite Games My favorite pool games are 14.1, Rotation, and then from the list, 10 Ball. Straight Pool or 14.1 Continious is the King of Games to me. In this game, you see just about all the shots and circumstances one would experience in other pool games. This game requires total cue ball...

    What is the Best chalk?

Well, I guess I'll throw my two cents worth in... Best Tip: High End: Kamui Black Medium: Sniper Low End: Triangle Best Chalk: Currently using and preferred is Black Diamond. I have used NIB and don't like it as much as the Diamond. NIB is messier than Diamond but both have excellent...

Looking for help on LD shaft for Schon.

Schon Shaft vs Low Deflection I am shooting with a Schon STL4 and simply love the cuestick. At first, I shot with the Schon Shafts with ivory ferrules and a Sniper tip. I then went to a LD shaft(s). I have only used Predator shafts so this post is a little bias; however, I really like the...

14.1 straight pool for pathetic noobs

Welcome to the world of 14.1 -- a Great Game. First, you are not pathetic. Everyone of us Straight Pool Players began like you. No one starts out running 100 balls. It's like Chess... it takes a short time to learn the basics but a lifetime to master. I'll throw my two cents in... It is my...

What's the "purest" form of billiards?

I guess it depends on the definition of "pure. If you are playing any game the way it should be played and are shooting well, they all are pure. I shall go with 14.1 Continious (Straight Pool). Flame if you must but I feel this game will enhance all other pocket billiard games; however, what...

    The gambling "lingo"

Great post! I try a few of them but they sure have changed since I played alot... From Icon of Sin: Thought I had him locked down tight until he pulled out shorty and went airborne." I played a good safety on him and he could not hit a ball until he got his jump stick and jumped the ball. We...
