Getting started with 14.1

Hey how's it going. I just started really getting into playing pool again this year joined a league, bought myself a decent cue and started getting a little more serious about it. So I started by reading Robert Byrnes books and videos. Anyway I had never heard of 14.1 before but I started reading about it and now I can't stop watching YouTube videos of 14.1. I live near Toronto Canada and can't seem to get anyone to start playing it with me. If anyone knows of anyone up this way that could help me out it would be appreciated, or any book or video sources that could help me get started. For now i'am just going to play by myself and go from there.

Thanks Steve

Me too

I spent my holiday fund on the "Break shot patterns and Play your best straight pool" combo found here: http://www.billiardspress.com/booksorderingtest.html I'm also going to take some lessons from George Hammerbacher. I've also been lucky enough to find two guys in my area that like to play 14.1. I would say, fill you mind with as much knowledge as you can, search out any 14.1 league and BCA qualified instructor you can find. Most of all...put any and all of the knowledge you gain on the table. There's a lot to be learned here as well: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=World+14.1+2011&aq=f just listen to the commentary...you can pick up some good tips.

Best of luck and happy holidays!
Andy

I recomend as well the books by Phil Capelle in the link provided.

you may want to check out George Fels as well, he has a couple of books that are geared towards 14.1

if its videos you seek, check out

How to run a rack and how to run 100 by Jim Rempe, it is by far my favorite video on 14.1 i rewatch it often and i always seem to pick up something new each time i watch it.

Like i said before, stay in tune with this 14.1 forum as well i have learned tons from this site alone.

welcome to the straight-pool world Steve :)

As already shown up, there is some written material which is just great.

George Fels *Mastering Pool*
Capelle: *Play your best straight pool*
Cranfield: *The straight pool bible*

And every book from Byrnes is each cent worth-

The new book from capelle is also nice- to search here in the 14-1 forum ist also something to recommend. Great players re giving good advices here. Don t hesitate to ask questions here, you ll get for sure help.

keep shooting,

lg from overseas,

Ingo

Welcome to the best game available in pocket billiards! Like you, I enjoy the game but cannot find anyone who plays it in my area. Since John Schmidt no longer owns a poolhall in the immediate area, I miss seeing and playing the game. Well, I racked a lot while playing John…lol. Did I mention I racked A LOT!

Here are the titles of two books that were very useful to me. Hope they will help you.

Play Your Best Pool by Philip B. Capelle (Oct 2005)

The 99 Critical Shots in Pool: Everything You Need to Know to Learn and Master the Game (Other) by Ray Martin, Inc. IMGS and Estate of Rosser Reeves (Oct 5, 1993)

For websites that offer some good advice, I would start with these:

The Illustrated Principles of Pool and Billiards. Great website that gives a lot of info, even technical data on billiards. http://billiards.colostate.edu/index.html.

Hey ... I followed your advise and it ended up in a shoving contest! I missed, but I wouldn't leave the table, just like you said.:scratchhead::duck:
