I'm confused. Are you wishing it was back in the Derby City (Louisville) so that it would match the name? You reference a place somewhere in Kentucky, so it shouldn't need the DCC name there either.

I think first priority is finding a venue within a 20 mile radius of the Diamond factory. Limited options.

what i want is the derby city classic to at least come home to kentucky.
Or change the name and close the book on the derby.
I may not like the horseshoe as a venue but i will say they and diamond are trying to put on a good show. but at that place it is not nore ever will be the DCC. im sure a number of tracks or even the horse park would love to have this event, here and in ky

Hell, move it to Lexington and call it the Bluegrass Open or something like that. I, too, miss the old days of the DCC. Those were the first serious professional pool tournements that I ever went to and they blew my mind.

I think the Derby is what you make of it. I don't go up there for the full 9 days but we were able to eat up there fairly reasonable. Hell, I don't know how often I actually did eat. I really miss the action area of the EW however there are some things that I like about the "shoe". Like the fact that when watching the tournament matches you can go upstairs and watch from above.... If you aren't too cheap to buy the wristband. So I really think that there is nothing about it that is going to make everyone happy. The name thing is a little ridiculous I mean it is a hell of a lot closer to Louisville than any other big city.

i think the derby needs to come back to ky or they need to rename it.
its just not the derby city classic if its not in the derby city.
i also dont like the limits the new venue places on people attending.
your options for food limited ect ect.....the TAR room was some real bunk this year.
blah maybe im just cranky but t seems iv way fonder memorys of DDC's gone by. its lost its magic for the spectator.

No you are exactly right. I know they had no choice in leaving the executive west but they should have stayed in KY . I thought for sure they would have moved it to the Hotel where they held BCA tournaments in Nov. of 2007.It would have taken all of us 1 year to acclimate and the good times and memories would have continued to roll on.I had attended all from the beginning thru the 1st. yr. in the Casino and it was not even a shadow of it's former self.Unfortunately it must be a huge $ maker for Diamonds because I brought up to greg Sullivan abt. moving to a Hotel and he acted dumb founded saying everyone enjoys the casino better. So far I have not met one of the people Greg talked to.I have missed the last 2 yrs.Maybe a petition would help.

I think it would be awesome if the derby moved around to different Harrahs properties!

First stop should be their detriot property called Motor City! Its mid country so travel is not bad. Plus, strong pool support and possibly Very high turn outs.

Plus, Mars would not have to go very far and could really rally local support. Plus, dippy is close and a ton of others!!!!

Any Casino stinks for the DCC, and this one should never leave Luval!

Las Vegas would be a great venue.

You must be kidding! I think it would be better at anyplace but a casino! All casinos are like a big vacuum designed to suck up your money! They suck!! I know it's a tough situation finding a suitable location but I would prefer it to be a little smaller if necessary to fit it in a hotel ballroom situation. Te EW was the nuts IMHO, shame that couldn't continue. I haven't missed a DCC yet but I'm not nearly as thrilled about going to a casino event.

Don't Worry! Be Happy!!

I have been sitting here watching this thread. It seems to me that there are a lot of people that don't like the move, but there are only 32 posts here. As we all know, there is and most likely will continue to be around 1000 players or so down there for the event. That is far more than 32. The name of the tournament could be changed, but why? It could always be called the Diamond Open or the (insert corporate name here) open. It is not going to change the fact that they have found a new location for the tournament and that they signed a multi-year deal to keep it there.

In my opinion casino is much better, just for the fact that everything doesn't smell like smoke now. I know that the action room has taken a beating, but it is still there. Where did all the players go? Just about every time I walked by it, there were open tables in there. That is not a good argument for the action room at that point. I don't get into the gambling part of the DCC so someone else could maybe shine a different light on that.

I am just Joe Shmoe, and my opinion is only as good as everyone else here, but that is my take on it. We can live with it and the things we don't care for about it, or we can try to make them change it again and find something else we don't like.

I say leave it alone. I will take the 2 1/2 hour drive as often as my finances allow me to.

I don't see what everybody is complaining about. I like the Horseshoe and think DCC is an awesome event. True, the food choices are limited and somewhat overpriced but New Albany isn't so far and has all the fast food your heart may desire. It's easy to avoid the casino - I do it every year.

Just like Johnson City-The old Derby

was in a great spot!!! There's a sandwich shop 2 blks away (with soup and food to die for -5-6 bucks. Roast-beef piles 4 inches thick cheeses etc. What is lost is the gambling action from room to room. There were clicks gambling in different areas- and there was action for all? Day and night. All the cue guys and tip guys, were where they were yr after yr. For a long tournament with 450 players at anytime( it ran smooth !!!! and the billiard stuff was across the street!! So you got to see the other games played too. People can go to the river boat casino any day of the wk-stop messing with the best venue Pool had. It was a great place for the gamblers and tournament players to cross paths. PUT IT BACK IN THE NEW MOTEL- mark

A pool tournament at a casino is like having AA meetings at BW3's.....it makes little since. A lot of the pool playing crowd are somekind of gamblers, not necessarily on the pool table but card, craps, roulette...etc tables. Having a vice within arms reach at all times is not good for an event like that. Everyone will never agree on what the best location for the DCC is but most will say that the Executive West was indeed a much better venue. The prices at the Horseshoe are ridiculous and your options are very slim unless you want to leave the grounds. I remember a guy who lost a decent amount of money ($2000+) and both agreed to play again later the same day. The winner goes straight to the casino and blows the money and needless to say they never play again. There was also a big set played and the person holding the money went straight to the casino, not sure how that ended up but I heard no one could find them for a long time.....

Phoenix Arizona has a lot of empty Hotel Rooms in Big Resort Type Hotels with Ball Rooms large enough to accommodate the DCC, in July & August any year. Plus I can guarantee you no SNOW or Cold Weather to deal with in the Valley of the Sun that time of year.

louisville, ky or bust and i know where not alone for fact!!! those throughbreds run on KY dirt. DC tourney cut its teeth here and on youtube theres videos to show it did very very good. it did grow and louisville did mess somthing up i think there some place but..... change the name let us be done with it or keep it in louisville, ky is my vote and many others. since diamond tables is located in indiana i dont see it happening but there is a chance. WE HAVE a new indoor arena called KFC yum as well as a ton of new hotels that went up for that arena to commidate many. lets not forget ky fair and expo center as well as even better and more central than downtown the freedom hall expo center a huge expo place with new wings and editions. yes you will need to ride to your hotel a whole 10 miles if that. if not the DC tourney then SOMEONE NEEDS TO MAKE OUR OWN NATIONAL TOURNEY theres great players here sitting around playing corn hole thats pretty sad youd devote all those years to pool the bottom falls out knowone tries to do anything and just settles. im in! i will help any way i can mail me!

if you know brian roberts here from rack 66 billiards in louisville he would likely say the same as well as a ton of his regulars and customers would. we need that level of exposure back!

thanks for reading

And how many years have you been going? i havnt missed one! and i hate the freakin casino rooms are overpriced, the prices for the tourny keep going up...etc.Have you ever heard of the johnson city tournaments? now listen to this, all the players who play accu-stat matchs have to wear a diamond shirt.which use to be free to players but now they have to pay for them...how is that fair? and all pool players want to win money that why they play the game! THE EW WAS THE NUTS!
