Mr. James Patrick McMann, age 78, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Utica on May 27, 1938, a son of the late Howard James and Margaret (Crane) McMann.

James was raised and educated in Utica, where he attended St. Francis DeSales High School. Mr. McMann proudly served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He began his career in Law Enforcement with the Utica Police Department, he latter accepted a position with the New York City Police Department where he was assigned to the South Bronx 42nd Precinct, in the infamous 1970’s. He was later assigned to the Midtown North Precinct and St. Patrick’s Cathedral Detail where he worked until he retired in May of 1990. Throughout his career Mr. McMann received many awards and medals. On October 12, 2007 Jim was wed to the former Roberta A. Ellis; the couple shared in a loving union with strong bonds to God and family.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Roberta; two daughters and a son-in-law, Maryrose McMann of Utica, and Lindabeth and William Graves of Deerfield; a son, Daniel P. McMann of Boston; his grandchildren, Stephanie and Anthony Monescalchi, Edgar Schloop and his companion, J’nai Spaziani, Michael McMann, Lydia McMann, Kaitlyn Graves, Lyndsay Graves, Melissa Graves, and Allison Graves; a great granddaughter, Arabella Monescalchi; a niece and nephew, Roseanne and Thomas Gwilt of Waterville; and his father-in-law, Robert J. Ellis of Madison. At one time, he had been wed to Susan Woodward. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael James McMann; a brother, Robert McMann, and his mother-in-law, Agnes Ellis.

Visitation will be held on Friday afternoon from 4:00-6:00 at the Adrean Funeral Service, Inc., 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk Street, Utica (at the Matt Funeral Home). Mr. McMann’s funeral service will commence on Saturday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church on Columbia Street in Utica. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery with military honors.

The family wishes to thank the efforts of the Utica Fire Department for the care and compassion that was shown to Jimmy on the many occasions that they had to respond to their home.

Condolences to family and friends. We had a Pool player here in N.E. Ohio who also was a retired Policeman and Firefighter. I am sure Jimmy Banks will be missed.

I just realized I knew Jimmy Bamks...I remember his enthusiasm.
...we talked about many other things.
He always treated me as a friend.
