Best Night of Shooting

I had my best night of pool ever tonight. I was thinking towards the end that I couldn't wait to go home and tell some fellow pool nerds about it on here.

I played a 1$ on the 5 and 10 ring game with a few friends. I broke and ran my first rack of 10 ball. I ran 7+ balls 5 times and took it all down.

After that one of my friends and I went to a bar with an open table and I kept the table for all 3 hours playing $5 a game 8 ball. No major score or anything worth bragging about as far as money. But this has been my best night ever by far as far as how I played.

Like I said, couldn't wait to tell some people who actually might care a little.

Instead of making this thread about me(much to my chagrin), let's hear the stories of everyone's best/favorite night/day of playing.

I was playing 9 ball with 3 buddies at a local bar. All of us can break and run out and play about high C to B speed. I broke and ran against all 3 of them and then the first guy again for a 4 pack felt good

I bought a really nice Sneaky-Pete cue a short time back from a regional cuemaker. When I mean really nice I mean in playability, it plays just how I like a cue to yet looks like it came off of the Bar wall rack. It even has an elkmaster tip :wink: I stopped at a Bar that had a decent box in it and playfully told anyone there, i'd do $10/game 8-ball. Some ppl there knew me, know 8-ball is not my fav. game onna bar-box and the little lights from cellphones got bright in the corners of the bar. :grin-square: I felt pretty confident with the cue as I hadda few hrs on it at the home table.
Less than an hour later, my call came in. I had a few high skill APA players ,and a buncha shooters wanting MY table. I was there for 2hrs, 45 mins , took 14 games, and was sooooo confident that I almost overdid a choppy power-draw shot back into a crowd of balls. ALMOST !:)
I tipped the bar-maid well and made out for another bar about 15 mi. away. Two "town" players followed me wanting to play again. Got to the second bar,(had a nice, but very dirty/used felt), and won $60 more. I finally lost one to one of the run-out "town" players, but by then I was tired of playing anyway ! (5 1/2 hrs total).

That 1 nite paid for half of my Sneaky ! :D
Itsa GREAT feeling ,... isn't it ?!?

Let me start by saying that getting into the zone and playing well above your normal speed
is an absolutely terrific feeling.

I can vividly remember doing it twice in the last few years. One where my teammates
and I stuck around after league to play for a while.
I hit the zone right from the get go, we were playing 10-ball and for at least 1.5 hours neither
of them won a single rack against me. I was running out from everywhere.
After that 1.5 hours or so one of them went home, the other stayed and told me he would
not leave until he had won a rack. That took him another hour or so.
I would say I am the strongest player in that team, but not by a huge margin. Winning, I don't
know, 30-40 racks straight is something I will most likely never do again.

Second time was when I was playing one of the strongest players in the region 9-ball on the big table.
This guy can usually spot me 4 games going to 9 or so, he plays very good.
This afternoon though I was more then keeping up with him (and he was playing good),
I was beating him. He mentioned something like, if you can play like that, you would do quite
well in the first division (highest level national league).

So, I know that on my very best day I can shoot lower to mid level pro pool. It's nice.

OK, just to add to the thread. I am not that good, just a 3 in APA. However, just for the heck of it I sometimes enter tournaments that I know are out of my league. I figure it's worth the entry fee for an hour of practice and two double elimination matches, maybe three if I'm lucky. Well a couple of weeks ago I entered the Monday night handicap tournament at Raxx in West Hempstead. Well, miracle of miracles, with the help of a generous handicap, a couple of times when an opponent left a hanging 9 ball, and an unbelievable carom off the 2 Ball (the object) into the 9 which I not only couldn't believe I made but couldn't believe I called, I made it to the final. Since it was 12:30 AM and I get up at 5 AM we split the prize money and skipped the last game.
Then, even though I was psyched I ended up playing sh1tty in my two leagues the rest of the week. But that Monday was a night to remember!!

Congrats on good night . Honestly I don't 1 in particular . I have on many occasion not missed a ball and lost. This, is more common than you would believe lol

Nice job Andrew. A first break and run of any of the major games is a good night all by itself.
But to play well and win some bucks behind that is a very warm and fuzzy feeling.

I had a night where I was playing at one of my favorite rooms which I don't go to as often as I should.
Great equipment. For some reason I was really focused and careful even just playing for funsies.
One regular plays close to me and we shot for hours and people stopped to watch because we were
just playing really well. At one point I got badly hooked, and saw a small possibility of playing
a kick off the nipple (actually a 2 rail kick, the first rail being the side pocket facing).

I called it and made it and the guy's jaw dropped, all he could say was "shut the f*ck up! No way!"

It wasn't even that I was winning nonstop though I definitely won a lot, it's that for hours
I was really focused and cared about every game, and it showed.
This sort of reminds me of one the quotes I see in someone's signature line,
"Work is love made visible". It felt good to work so hard for every shot at the table.
I enjoyed every second of it.

That's how I felt. I felt like a pool terminator. Every shot was clear in my mind like it was a drawing just waiting for me to execute it. I'm still kinda high this morning from the experience.

You hit the nail on the head with that last quote. That was the first time that it really felt like my love for the game just outshone the other guys playing. I felt like I was beating people psychologically with the confidence I had. And it was "made visible" by me executing perfectly.

Congrats!! It always feels great when you get in the zone.

My best night to remember is a little different than most of yours.
Back in the day, my dad played pool daily. Was the player of the town for sure. Someone he knew owned a little store with a bar box in the back that he would go play on every evening after school and would play at various places around town. I heard tons of stories from several people about him playing. He grew up going to bars and places with his dad playing. His dad taught him to play and they shot together a ton.
Well, move forward a generation and my father taught me how to play. He doesn't have time to play much at all anymore but I play as much as I can. One night we were sitting at the house and I asked if he wanted to ride to a local place I knew some people at and play a few games. We hadn't shot together in a long time and after asking momma, he agreed with a grin.

We went and got on a new bar box the place had just got in. It rolled like a rocket but played great. A few games in, he said I had gotten pretty good. Made me feel pretty good coming from him. Before we left, we played a few games of 9 ball which has always been his game. He beat me once, and I ran the next two racks. I gave him the break, he missed the 3 ball and I ran the table. The 9 ball was frozen to the rail and I made a table Length bank shot to finish the game. He didn't say a whole lot but just grinned and said "pop would be proud"

Pop is what I called my grandfather (dad's dad). He passed away when I was 1 and all I have is pictures and stories for memories. I have raced motocross and won championships, fished with professional fisherman, won thousands of dollars at a time, the list goes on but my dad saying that was by far the most rewarding thing that I've ever gotten.
