Help finding a v-groove cutter

Ok, I'm a brown belt in GOOGLE-FU, but I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. Can someone help me find a 1/2" shank 90 degree milling cutter? Prefferably with a 4" or 6" shank.

I can modify something if necessary, but would rather buy it like I need it if possible.

Thanks in advance! :)

Grizzly is where I got mine. I used the 90 deg, .750 bore carbide tipped shaper head and then a .500 shaft and 2 .500 to .750 adapters.

Just for the record. Do a search for 90 double angle cutter. This is how I found them.

With that long of a shank you're probably going to have to special order one.

cutter

Here is one that is usually used with a collet that you can balance.

If you live in or near a decent size city, there should be an Industrial Cutting Tool distributor that could help with ease. They may even have one on the shelf.

Don't hesitate to call these types. They will sell to anyone with the money.

Or order on line from one of these.

What about a 1/4 shank? Does anybody know of a cutter or edge banding bit bit with a 1/4 shank?

Safety

No Problem! Make sure that your bit is cutting on the back side of the peice, that way you are safe. All the best, Kent

That is almost identical to the shaper head that I referred to from Grizzly in the first post. Grizzly also sells a 1/2" X 5" or so shaft that allows it to be put into a collet instead of the shaper's post. I use the set-up in a mill. It would scare me to try and move something that big in a router at any high speeds. 8000rpm would probably work pretty well though.

Sorry Dick I missed that.

No offence taken. Sorry if I gave you that impression. That's not really why I re-posted. Your finding is a different brand and Whiteside makes pretty good carbide cutters. I should have posted some links as you did. I was just to lazy to look them up.

Point is, I believe this type of cutter, where the apex of the cutter is moving horizontally, makes a better and cleaner V pocket than a cutter that is perpendicular to the work piece. I used to use the vertical type and the very bottom of the V wouldn't come out perfectly. I would have to use a 90 deg. scraper to get the bottom of the V to a good 90 deg.. Using the horizontal cutter the bottom is cut good and clean plus the cutter is larger in diameter so that the prong size isn't as critical when cutting the V.

No problem Dick.
The only way I have experienced a sharp botton with a vertical is if it had 1 flute like an engraving bit. And even then it is not as clean as a side cutter. I have been using a double angle cutter in the mill so far. I am debating on tearing my shaper apart and using the motor and parts to make a point machine.
