I am nervous and tense over our regionals. We made it in both 8 ball and 9 ball. I have to play. Last time I totally choked. I'm super tense. I can not **** it up. And...... I can not drink, I am a lost cause then.

You will be fine. Play your game, as well as you can, and forget the rest. Just think about the shot in front of you.

I'm rooting for ya!

So any advice for my first time at top gun tournament?

i will give you some advice based on my experience.

treat it just like a regular league night as far as your play.in other words dont get nervous or uptight like i did my 1st time.

my 1st top gun tourny was just a few months after i started league. i was a 3 at the time i qualified but i was raised to a 4 the week before the tourny. i was nervous as heck and lost my 1st match to a player that i knew i was better than. after i lost i had a long talk with my self and played my game the rest of the tourny and won it.

next .....every one i have played in the players keep score. it is not a requirement in our area to keep track of innings during top gun and several players don't mark them. i do for obvious reasons. kinda odd a 5 will magically play like a 6 or 7 when innings are not being marked.

8 ball scoring is not too bad but 9 ball scoring is a lil difficult to mark points and keep your focus. the way we do it is your opponent marks your points and you mark his.

make sure you check the point total after every inning and the win /loss after every rack.

it is inevitable you will meet 1 or 2 dick heads from other divisions. don't let them get you out of your game, just relax and enjoy your 1st time and have fun.

good luck.

just getting around to posting sunday nights league now....might as well post tonights also.:grin-square:

sun nite double jeapordy i play 9 ball 1st. like i alsways do i start out slow. i am down 18-2 before i get in gear ..me goin to 38 and my opponent 46. i lose 46-34.

in 8 ball they dump a 3 on me ....mainly because several players on that team left early saying they gotta go to work early. well so do i. any way i win 4-1. shoulda been 4-0 but i got careless breaking out a cluster and made an early 8. would not have tried that against a stronger player though.

ike i said they had 3 players leave early...a 6...5,,,and a 3. being the nice guy i am i let their 7 play the last 9 ball game even though that made their handicap total come to 25. big mistake.:frown: he puts an 18-2 ass whipping on my 5 ....who i have told the lo several times...and mentioned on here a few times...oughta be a 4.it was the last week of our regular session.

oh yea.... our lo is in vegas this week and since my girlfriend is the division rep she had to wait until all the teams were finished ....get all the score sheets..... total up all the points for each team. send the info to our lo so he can make up the schedules for play offs this weekend.

nothing like spending an hour watching 2-2's play 8 ball on the 9' table. musta been 50 innings to play 3 racks.

on to tonight. my 1st night in a new to me money league. my captain puts me up against a 7 the last match. i am a 3 in this league so its a 7-3 race. i lose 7-2.

players on both teams told me after wards that it was a helluva match that coulda gone either way. i think i coulda pulled it off except for 2 break and runs he put on me for his 5th and 6 th win. that kinda put a damper on my focus the last rack

shhhh...!

ok, so i've taken the place of that dude who got full % payout. season starts next week. they'll probably rank me a 2 (of 10). which is fine w/ me.

the LO was in the House tonight - cause Jimmy just got back from a weekend w/ Mark Wilson. WHAT A NIGHT!!!! (made me pick up a cue after 9 months!)

and i told the LO: i'm playing, but i reserve the right, to utilize my alternate, in the event my tendonitis acts up again....

AGREED.

is it wrong, that my "älternate", happens to be Earl's protege? as well, as one of the American Rotation finalists?

SHHH!!!! oooh. ouch. my elbow's getting sore already -

Funny Stuff, Pinky

So tonight I finished my session 11-0. I still probably won't win Top Gun, as there are two ahead of me that have more shutouts than I, and no losses, so they have more points than me.

My team has a bye next week, so the only chance I have for Top Gun is for them to play and lose. Not likely, in my estimation, and even then the math might not work for me.

No big deal, I know how well I did. And admittedly, that 11-0 record includes probably 4 or 5 matches against SL4 or lower, maybe a few more. So I'm not gonna crow about it. I still had to win, but its not the same as beating the same skill level or higher.

The important thing is my team is still in first place, and still should be after the bye next week, so we get the wild card in the playoffs.

OK, I am like a walking zombie this morning after getting two and a half hours of sleep last night. When I got into my car last night to go home after playing our team's final match it was 1:47am. What an effin joke. I am getting so tired of this crap. Literally!! Seems like every week its 5 hours minimum to play all five matches. The main culprit of our marathon 6 hour and 40 minute APA 8B league night last night was a match between a SL3 on our team and a SL2 on the other. This was a 3-2 race in which the SL2 beat the SL3 2-2. This match lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes!!!! To play FOUR freakin games! I've never seen anything like it. If there is one thing that is going to push me away from the APA it is this. I get up at 5am for work. By the time I fell asleep it was after 2:30. This is by far the biggest turnoff for me. Watching two women(no offense to the ladies of AZB) who can't play pool to save their lives take 37 innings(no joke) to play four racks is just a mind-numbing, colossally agonizing experience. Neither of them take the game very seriously which is frustrating to begin with. And there's really nothing you can do about it either. Sure you can make a few comments to try and move things along, but slow play is slow play. In one of the games it took them 7 or 8 attempts to pocket the 8B when it was the last ball on the table. Seriously??? At least four of the shots were simple straight in shots too. And of course they used all 16 coaching timeouts! I just don't know how much longer I can do this. I like all of they guys on my team and I like our only girl too. She is a sweetheart and I really AM a team player but I think the more this happens, the more I realize that I need more from playing pool than this APA shit can provide. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Oh yeah....I won my match 5-1 against another SL6 in less than 35 minutes with one B&R. I really wanted to go home. :D Did I mention how much I hate league night??

^^^ Sounds like a lot of our league nights, but we are done around 1115-1130 on average it seems. I get up at 6 each morning and have borderline insomnia so Fridays are usually a little rough. One more week though and the session is done. Time to beat some *ss and lock up points for 8 ball as well as top gun for the 6s and 7s.

I feel your pain. Our league nights don't go quite that late (usually end around midnight) but I know what you mean in regards to 8 ball matches between 2 low skill level players. The best thing they can do is always always be ready to play the next shot. What grinds me is when a 2 or 3 is playing a 2 or 3 and misses a shot and goes and sits down and turns their back to the table. Come on your opponent isn't going to run out! Be ready to play. This tilts me often. Also, in terms of playing 8 ball a weak break and a lot of clusters contribute significantly to the issue. Other than allowing designated breakers I'm not sure how to combat it.

Yeah that's a big part of it. The breaks are usually barely legal as far as enough balls going to a rail which leaves you with a big cluster**** resembling a 14.1 break shot. I agree too about the "being ready to shoot" part of it. Our player is OK with this but the other player last night acted as if the match was interfering with her socializing, her meal and every other personal agenda she had. Good thing she was easy on the eyes. I may have walked out. :D :p

Yea leaving at 2am is BS! It's happened to me before and I wasn't happy.

I've been working 11 hour days. I leave my house at 5:30am, takes an hour to get to work, I worked till 6:30pm, and took an hour to get home. My 8-ball team captain called me asked if I could play and I declined. I don't see the point when we are in last place... Well then he tells me a team dropped out and we get to go to the second chance tournament. Oh joy... I was hoping I was done.

Anyways, tonight we play our last nine ball match and hopefully we crush them so we can advance straight to the city cup.

congrats on your win!

and no offense taken here - i feel your pain, above. sorry, but that's hysterical in my book. so let me ask yáll, cause no one in our League reads AZB. and no one really knows the Rules, including the LO. so i can pretty much - make them up & get them enforced:

1) what's the time limit on late shows for a match? vs forfeit? (player and/or team)
2) what's the shot-clock limit?
3) and above - at what point, do you simply "call" a match, due to stupidity?
4) i don't know what a time-out is....;)

having sat on the sidelines last season, and hearing all teams biotch about these things inhouse, it's a bone of contention here too. KK9 always got 1st or 2nd match @ 7ish & then we were out the door (due to health issues). but i've heard that the night runs till midnight usually. and i don't have time for that!

Question #5:

can i do this????
i used to could break - but that's how i blew out my elbow (BEST break of my life & sank the 8, so it was worth it). can i establish w/ League that i require my alternate (best breaker in the house & non-League), to break for me?

The only league I play in now is APA masters. Maybe you should look into that if there is a division in your area. No handicapping, 3 races to 7 per night, a combination of 8-ball and (real) 9-ball, and a higher average level of play than the handicapped divisions usually make for a quick night. I played in the handicapped divisions for a long time, and generally enjoyed it, but it was frustrating to sit around and watch/score matches like the one you described. It would be one thing if all the APA 2's and 3's were just new players that wanted to learn, but they are so many of them than don't have any intention of improving and are just there to socialize and beat balls around.

In my old division this came up and they let the player forfeit his break. It's a disadvantage but at least in APA 8 ball the table isn't automatically open after pocketing a single ball on the break.

Final week of playoffs and we got to host them at our spruced up place. Our 4 started out with a shutout, sweet. I faced their 7 next and was a little too cocky. He had a very nice out, then bnr. He hung his last ball, leaving me to bank a ball it blocked and I made a nice out. Flubbed the next to be down 3-1, but scrapped my way back and got a little lucky to finish 5-3. Our 6 faced theirs and only got one for a 0-2. One of our 3s got a hill loss, leaving another 3 to play their 2. First to 2 won the night.. he won two straight. Two 8b teams going to tricups, so it'll be nice only having one weekend with two chances.

Wow....just wow. The more I read, the more I realize how good we have it here.

We start at 7. After two hours, we go to two tables. Latest we get done is around 11, occasionally a few minutes after that, most times 10:30-10:45.

And yes, I have a SL3 who has had matches against another 2 or 3 go over 40 innings
before. I don't know what to suggest for your situation. The places we play at would never let us stay that late.
