Where Are Top Players @ TS?

Could it be that a lot of the top players don't like the idea of no refund on entry...no matter what. Also that the non-refunds go into the promotors pocket. Looks like the usual dead money has a real chance to cash for this TS, which is good for the dead money guys & gals. What might not be good is a second and third tier player list for the casino won't get the draw from top name players. Is there another big tournament going on? I know the China Joy 8 ball is now, not many American player go to it. Johnnyt

The no refund thing has been going on for a long time, so that's probably not the reason.

I'm just guessing they don't want to waste the money knowing the best they can do is get 2nd place next to Shaw.

I think that not refunding Oscar and his Dad last year magnified the no refund rule for a lot of players.

Might be something to the Shaw thing. Johnnyt

Isn't it really just more a matter of this being a regional tour championship that fills up way in advance and most pros outside of the area just don't get in.

Sometimes the simplest answer is the one.

Johnny,

You only think you know one side of the story. Then there is the truth. Perhaps you should contact Mike Zuglan and ask him about the circumstances around Oscar's withdrawal. Actually about the reason for his policy.

Joe,

Include the fact it is a four day event without a player auction. Many of the top players want to gamble on the tables. TS shuts the pool tables down as soon as the tournament play is over. No "practice" tables either. The only tables available are the ones out front and the odds of winning are much, much smaller. TS nearly always wins that battle.

Also the Rocket City Open in Huntsville, AL is running concurrently.

Can't blame some of the top players for not showing up then if they shut the room down outside of tournament time. Don't think I've ever heard that mentioned on here or on any stream.

They are all doing drills, you know, to get ready for MC. Hopefully they spend a lot of time lagging.

Looks like all the ladies are playing in the WPBA event (great advertising and scheduling :banghead:). At least that field won't be as pathetic as it was last year at Soaring Eagle.

I was talking with Justin Hall about three months ago,

and I asked him about playing in Turning Stone, he said the same thing,

why play in a tournament, that if I don't place in the Top 3 I lose money unless you live in the area. Besides, they shut the tables down and you cant gamble so there is no way for me to make money. If I was a big non pool playing --Gambler-- the casino loves you but you cant make any money other than playing in the casino in NON pool, games. Not for me, I will stick around Florida and have fun with friends and family during the holidays.

Hope this sheds a little light on the situation,

20 minutes away is a 24-hour room where he can get played, don't let that stop him!

Plenty of top players in this event, which is why some top guys may not choose to spend the money it costs to participate. All of these very strong players are in the field:

Archer, Johnny
Casanzio, Ron
Corteza, Lee Van
Hatch, Dennis
Immonen, Mika
Hunter Lombardo
Morra, John
Morris, Rodney
Oliveira, Nelson
Rodriguez, Jorge
Shaw, Jayson
Shuff, Brandon
Thorpe, Billy
Wilkie, Shaun
Zvi, Zion

Winning this event will take a monster effort.

Sure he'd fly from Florida to sunny Central New York for the CHANCE he can find a game? He'd be better off driving to New Orleans and have Jason Hunts backer make a game for him and Jason. Ain't gonna happen!

The weather forecast for upstate NY is treacherous for today through the weekend.
Snow, high winds, and temperatures down to -16F for Saturday.
I always photograph at TS, but this time I canceled my reservation.

There may be some no-shows.
Mike Zuglan runs a tight ship, so I wonder how he will handle probable cancellations due to the severe weather.

TS is a great venue for fans to get up close to see the matches without any problems.
But, for the players, it's restrictive because the tables are shut down after the last match, the room is secured, and there's no Calcutta, no after-hours action, and not much time to practice.
TS wants everyone to eat, drink, see the shows and gamble at the casino.
