On Sundays I'm in 2 leagues, an afternoon APA 8&9 ball league and an evening straight pool league. I didn't do so good in the afternoon, only winning one of three matches, but in my straight pool league I won in actual score without the spot even though I was spotted 12 points. I always find it very satisfying to win in actual score without the handicap so the handicap can't be used as an excuse.

Luckily I'm active duty Air Force, so LASIK was free! My visual acuity was perfect the next day, but I have had some problems with angles and aiming here and there. Sometimes I can see angles perfect and other times my eyes just weren't working together. After about 3 weeks or so I've gotten used to it and I think I can see better than ever. LASIK is expensive on the civilian side (especially if you have the flap laser-cut) but it's the best present you could ever give yourself.

Every single person I've ever talked to that had the Lasik surgery swears it was the best thing they ever did...

i just got back from the board qualifier/ double jeapordy tonight.

i had a very interesting and somewhat controversial day. i played both 8 and + ball qualifiers. we started out with 8 ball.

as par for the course i start out slow. nah... i sucked the 1st match.... i mean really sucked. 4-4 race and i lost 4-0.

i turned it around from the 2nd match on.

4-3 race i won 4-0.
4-3 race i won 4-1.
4-4 race i won 4-0
4-4 race i won 4-1
4-4 race i won 4-1

i get to the finals. its true double elimination. i face the guy i lost my 1st match to.

i win 4-2. now the controversy comes up. we start to play again and i ask where the score sheet is. the td says my opponent has it. i ask him if he is gonna fill it out and keep score. he says yea.
we start the 2nd match. after he wins the 1st rack and i win the 2nd i look at the score sheet. he never started keeping it.

i call him over after he finishes racking the 3rd rack and i tell him he never marked his win or mine. he says he will take care of it from then on.

next time i look at the score sheet i am up 3-2 with him racking. he wins that rack and i put quarters in for the final rack and he asks what are you doing... games over he won he says.

i said it aint over ... its hill - hill. he grabs the score sheet and shows me he won 4-3. i said that can't be right. you got the last 2 racks marked as wins for you. i said i won the last rack before this final one.

i called the td over. need less to say all she could go by is what he marked down. i learned my lesson about trusting some one to be honest when it comes to a qualifying tournament.

so i started 9 ball qualifier all bent out of shape. i went 2 and out.

i played my double jeapordy 8 ball match and won 4-1 in a 4-3 race. did not play 9 ball tonight due to being in that qualifier at the time.

then if the above crap was not enough to make me have a bad day. i had to ride my ike home in a friggin monsoon. 11;30 at night....no jacket ... 60 friggin degrees.

That sounds very dangerous.

it is dangerous if you shoot directly towards the pocket. But if you aim at the rail next to where the pocket ends then there's no risk for the 8 to fall in. If your opponent isn't a run-out type of player, you don't even have to bother with a CB-OB-8 combo. Just hit the 8 with the CB, he'll get ball in hand, so what? He'll drop a couple of easy balls and once he faces a difficult shot where he usually goes full power, he'll be helpless.

Yesterday, our 8b side won with 10 or 11 points and were already in first by 8. Should be set to buy right into tricups. In 9b, we were also in first by 8 and got 73 yesterday, so we have a good chance at getting both as long as we don't bomb in 9b.

I played 8b yesterday against a 5. At the beginning, I kept thinking it was a 5-4 race and wasn't really giving it all I had. Next thing I know, I've given up a 2nd game after getting to the hill and then I realize their 6 wasn't there and he's on the hill! Pulled out the win and all was right with the world.

By this weekend, the place I play out of will have all 4 Valleys replaced with Diamonds. Aww yeah, it's gonna be on then. My banking has been really good on them lately. I don't plan on playing another regional tournament until next Spring and then I plan on saving up plenty of money to do a little gambling.

Question #3

need yáll's help again, please...? (KK9 doesn't read this thread, so speak freely)

we finished 3rd @ 8-ball @ $210.
5 members w/ 2 alternates = 7, technically, but....

is the payout (we are splitting hairs over $12 WHOLE DOLLARS), divied-up by:
prorated per match played/payed?
prorated by points/who carried the team?
or split evenly - period, whether the "alternates", etc showed or not?

again, $12/TWELVE DOLLARS is not worth it, but it DOES have EVERYthing to do with whether we continue. when KK9 went undefeated. and ALL, had to split w/ a guy (alternate) i'd NEVER seen show. who showed his ass tonight....

PS - we finished 1st @ 9-ball @ $500! payout is THU....

i always pro rated based on the number of matches played/payed.. it ain't right paying a guy who played 5 matches the same amount as the guy who played 10 matches.

I used to play in an in house league that had cash payouts. We payed each player their weekly league fee for each win (I had 18 wins, so @ $5 fee a night, I received $90). Then we pro rated the rest. The players on our team that showed up 2-3 times moaned and groaned, but they still stuck around.

i always pro rated based on the number of matches played/payed.. it ain't right paying a guy who played 5 matches the same amount as the guy who played 10 matches.

I agree. We have two players on our 9ball team like that. One has only shown up once, the other has never played. They both expect something out of it and they will be surprised when they don't get SH&#! lol

I didn't go to my 8-ball match, went to dinner with the wife instead. I'm starting to dislike the captain of the 8-ball team. He has that "I'm the best around and I can do what I want" attitude. The last time I played, he threw himself up first saying he would play anybody. He's a 5 and barely weaseled his way past a 4. He came up to me and said, "I need to start showing up to play first, so I can win and show all of you how it's done." ....REALLY BRO? LOL

Payout based on matches-played is the best way to do it.

I just got back from being out of the country, and I have league tomorrow night. There is a good chance I won't have time to hit balls tonight to try to practice a bit....good luck to me tomorrow. Please throw an over handicapped 6 on me. That is all.

We don't pro rate, but we play everyone as close to equally as possible. With the 23 rule, some folks don't get to play as much as others.

In your case, dealing with an alternate who doesn't even come to play very often, I think its reasonable. Of course, this should probably be discussed before the session starts...

Good luck sorting it out.

Won my 8-ball match last night, a real grinder against another SL5, a good buddy of mine.

I'm undefeated this session. 9-0. Of course, with the new Top Gun scoring, I'm only #7 or #8...I don't have enough shutouts to place higher. No biggie, I actually find it amusing. Next week I'm probably gonna take on a much stronger player than myself (if they play the lineup I suspect) so it may very well be a moot point. Hey, I might shock him, ya never know. :p

We were in Charlotte for hours waiting for you and Matt to show up last night but no dice .

As for the vacation I get a good ol 4 weeks a year since I have been working here for 11 years. It rolls over March 1 so after my December hurrah I started new...don't be pissed June 23rd-30th when I am in Vegas for the WSOP :).

You lucky bastard!

We can accrue up to 104 hours PTO (vacation) per year and only roll over 80 hours. So for me to get 4 weeks vacation, I'd have to save for almost 2 years!

I think that it is bad for team cohesion to pay out based on performance, so I would forget about that option. If you want a compromise between paying out for participation (and presumably, investment) and paying out for being part of the team, I suggest paying everyone back what they put in during the season first, then splitting the rest.

Payouts

Pinklady--
I captain APA & VALLEY teams. The agreement BEFORE we start is:
Every time you PAY, that is a share. If you play and pay, you get one share, if your sub plays but you pay, you get one share. Whether you play or not, if you dont pay, the person who foots the bill gets the share. In the end, Payout divided by total number of pays times your pays=what you get.
many players want the experience of playing but cant or wont pay their way. This presents an alternative. Usually the payout is more than the payin (for teams finishing in the upper tier), so some players or coaches may use this formula as an investment

Haha....well we don't get to roll over any so you do have that benefit. There have been times where I had 1-3 days left and had to burn them so it would have been nice to roll them over instead of wasting them in January/February. I can't complain though...I also get my birthday off on top of holidays :D

Back to league...I think I am in 2nd in top gun points in 8 ball since I didn't play the last couple of weeks...will have to try to rectify that tomorrow even though I will probably shoot like crap...who knows.

We can roll over up to 120 if we write up an official email to the HR department on how we plan to use the hours in January & February (primarily for Mardi Gras week).

I dropped from 1st to 6th in the MVP points. My 9-ball team captain (SL6) is still in the lead. Then there are about 3-4 of us, from our team, in the top 10. Our team is still in 1st place by a small amount of points. With 3 weeks left, we need to get as many as possible to skip the playoffs and go straight to the City Cup tournament.

thank you, for yáll's info!

we needed this, for tomorrow night's payout @ $500 @ 1st place 9-ball....
KK9 found Dave M's performance related component formula very interesting. and so did i, cause i was trying to come up w/ a way to give them incentive, to play better & take no prisoners.

now that i'm not seeing shades of red, here are better details of last night:

- this is UPA League, so 23 rule doesn't apply
- the LO is lacking in Rules & Regs knowledge (which is why i can throw Mark Griffin @ him & he listens to me)
- the Captain(s) don't know the R&Rs either
- the alternate guy who showed his ass last night & p1ssed off his entire team @ payout:
he did apparently play 4 matches. lost them all. $40 o-o-p. he CLAIMED that he showed up for all 6 other matches & wasn't played. therefore, he was due equal share.
the Captain told him that he never responded till 10 mins before start time; therefore not played.
KK9 told him that he'd played 8 matches, undefeated & spent $80.
3 others played 8-10 matches @ $10/ea.
the LO went over cause it was close to blows, and said: IT'S UP TO THE CAPTAIN, BUT IT IS NORMALLY PRORATED.

so this ass (let's just call him George), showed-it so much, that everyone said: you know, it's not worth $12 of our time to argue....

....and he took his cash & promptly left.

(till i followed him out the door)

so what do yáll advise for tomorrow night? cause it's $500 split -
