Have you had a pool cue stolen?

What's your stolen cue story?

I was reading the stolen cue thread and it made me wonder about the stories that go along with the missing cues. Most of the posts don't mention how they were stolen. A few mention having a car broken into.

I'm always on high alert walking in or out of a pool hall with my expensive cue and case tucked tightly under my arm as I scan the parking lot for trouble. Luckily, I haven't become a victim yet. What about you?

I went broke at the pool room once and borrowed $50, giving my Scruggs sneaky as collateral.

Went to the dude a week later and he smiled as he told me he sold it for 100.

And now that I think of it, jam...that stick made you'n'yours some $, c/o a designated breaker.

Invoice enroute! Not really.

I had been inactive in pool at a point and a contractors helper lifted my cue
out of the upstairs and I didn't catch it until way late. I called the guy and told him where
it was when it got gone and why I knew someone in his crew got it. It wasn't a valuable
cue but it was mine. I told the guy I'd better not see it again. I never did.

I played a VNEA event in Reno, in 88 I believe. The last year it was in Reno. I was sitting in the casino restaurant and a guy was looking at my 2x4 Joe Porper case. He asks if he can see my cues which was rather strange. He then explained that someone had gotten into the rooms with a pass key and a whole bunch of cues got stolen. He stated only high end cues were taken, with many low end cues left behind. His was a high end cue in a 2x4 Porper case. I remember not leaving my cue in the room at any time, a Richard Black 30/30 split because I did not trust the cleaning staff. Just lucky I guess I still have that cue today.

Had my cues stolen out of a convertible corvette I had.

Car was parked directly in front of the front door at Mothers in Charlotte and they cut the top - takes a lot of balls.

I was in there maybe 5mins and was leaving right away or I would have taken them(3 cues) in with me.

Not my cue, but the captain of our State team. He literally took his cues and case into the restroom with him and they were leaning up against the wall while he was doing his business.

He glances over, sees the case gone and he immediately starts running for the door. The guy that took them heard his footsteps coming and he immediately dropped the case just outside the restroom.

My friend saw him from 10 feet away heading for the exit doors. Later he pointed him out to the tournament organizers. Because a well-known player at the tournament just had his cue and case stolen, they actually took the guy out to his car and they searched his vehicle. They found nothing.

Because they didn't catch him literally with a stolen cue, they said that they didn't have evidence, so there he was roaming around the tournament venue the rest of the week!

Rode with friend from work to a bar that we frequented often in '85. I left my McDermott D-5 in the car. Came out about 30 minutes later to get it and passenger window was broken and my cue gone. He had an expensive radar detector on the sun visor and a Colt .45 under his seat. Only my cue gone.
And yes, it was a great playing cue. I do have a D-1 now that is 1 of 4 cues that I won't sell. BTW, he was a well-to-do project manager at our company and had no interest in pool.

Have had 2 stolen. A Joss and a Meucci, one brand new, one @ a year old. One from my car ( broken window break in ) one from off the table I was playing on while I was in taking a bathroom break while gambling. Whoever took it off the table ( and no one sweating the match noticed a thing. but it was at a big tournament and it was a packed house, so... ) was nice enough to leave my Fellini case behind.

I have zero concern about being robbed of my cues since I carry
and have had my CCW permit for >30 yrs. Not sayin' it can't happen
but anyone that carries a gun knows that you are always on alert &
aware of your surroundings whether on line at the supermarket,
getting gas, walking your dog, or even grabbng a fast food burger.

You don't go around looking for potential criminal activity but you sure
are aware of your surroundings because the last thing you want to do is
draw you weapon, let alone use it. So personal robbery is not a concern
and woe be tide to my assailant(s). But burglary of my home, pool locker,
auto or my own absent-minded behavior resulting in lackadaisical thinking
re: where you place / leave your equipment when playing, going to the BR,
or even turning your back to converse with someone and wham, your cue
or case isn't there. That's my biggest worry about losing irreplaceable cues.

That sucks Mike!

My wife thought she was doing me a favor by getting my cue out of the car on a day I had off but she had to work. Unfortunately she forgot that she had set the cue on the back bumper of my blazer and then proceeded to pull out of the driveway and take off. I didn't mind losing the Mobley or the fact that one of my neighbors wound up with my cue, but I sure miss the George case that she got me when we were 16 years old. I've already replaced the Mobley but I'll never be able to replace that case.

But I did upgrade the cue significantly. What was she gonna say??

Several times.

The first was about 30 years ago, out of my truck. Went to see a movie, sticks were in the back seat. Came out to find that someone had taken my crappy car stereo deck, my pack of smokes, and my sticks. One was my first stick, a McDermott, forget what the other was. Worst part was they took my copy of Foreigner's Greatest Hits, which was inside the deck.

Other two times were in a bar. Left the sticks at the table while I went to the rest room.

Since then I always have someone I know watch them while I take care of nature calls, or ask the bartender if they will hold them for me behind the bar.

You know, Z, Randy did almost the exact same thing with a Palmer I sold him ( actually, I sold it to Cunningham who sold it to Randy like... 2 days later! ). So Randy's at the Horseshoe, drunk ( imagine that! ) and when he left, he sets the cue on the roof of the car as he unlocks it. Then gets in and proceeds to drive off.

Oops.

And it was SUCH a nice cue. Very plain, hit balls GREAT. And you know, Randy was PISSED no one gave him back the cue. I thought that was hysterical. :rotflmao1:

I had my meucci sneaky pete stolen out of a locker at the student union in Cal Berkeley in the late 80s. It was in a fellini 1x2 which I miss more than the meucci. It had just the right patina to the leather.

In 2014 I was in Vegas with my APA 9ball team. We had just finished getting beat but we cashed and the team wanted to go blow some of the dough at a bar. They started by walking across the street to slots of fun next door to circus circus to get a bite to eat and have a beer. We walk in and I went to get a slice of pizza. I have my cues with me slung over my shoulder. By the time I got pizza and walked over to where the team was they were in a panic as they had just gotten two pool cases filled with four cues stolen. After they walked in some went to get food and one guy started playing slots. He was carrying his cues and his daughters cues and put then down next to the slot machine. In an instant they were gone. Some on the team ran outside and started searching but those cues vanished.

Sometimes you just have to get lucky though. Ive told this story on AZ before . One time about 20 years ago I was playing in deerfield beach in a tournament and I was playing Dennis Searing. He beats me double hill and as i'm unscrewing one of the railbirds comes up and is talking to me about a specific shot that happened double hill. We get to talking for five min and I remember I was absent mindedly rolling my cue ( an early 70s Joss) back and forth. Anyways I had already put my break cue and jump cues away and after we got done talking I took my case and left. The Joss was still on the table, and I had rolled it right up against the rail. It was already late and I went home. Fast forward to the next morning I woke up and the oh crap moment hit me. I though wait a min....went to my case and it was missing. Then it all came back to me that I had left it there. I was upset and my wife says call the pool room. Naw I said that was a rare cue...its gone for sure. Call the pool room she says again. So I did. Person answers the phone and I hear them yell hey did anyone find a pool cue last night? I hear some discussion and another person comes to the phone and says yeah I closed last night and i found this cue. I held it up and said hey whose cue is this. Dennis Searing was standing nearby and looks and goes hey I know whose cue that is, Ill give it to him. This was back when Dennis had a shop in Hollywood Fl and was 15 min away.

I have had a couple of cues "stolen" in my lifetime. Actually, I'm not so sure they were stolen, because I don't really remember exactly what happened. That's because I was drinking too much. Since I quit drinking a while back, I have not had a cue stolen. Funny coincidence :D

Back in the 80,s i was playing in Vegas BCA in a match and put my case under the table i was playing on. I had a Szam in the case i had showed some interested players ( thieves) . Never left during the match and yep when match is over get the case out from under the table ******* a the Szam disappeared. If there would have been one of those illusionist there i would have dropped him. you cant stop some scumbags .
