which players got/get the most out of a compact stroke? - 08-10-2020, 04:31 AM

I prefer the long, flowy stuff
but I'm curious
who shoots good
and gets good purchase
out of minimal movement?

morro comes to mind..lee van is the man
to a lesser (or more of an) extent, alex-
I think he's got a good in-between thing

who ya got?

A billiard table is that richest of metaphors,
by turns a theatre, an altar, touchstone, gauntlet,
ritual ground, a gunfighter's high noon, a refuge,
a verdant landscape for balls to scatter and rest in meaningful synchronicity,
a classroom, a karma dance, mirror of moods, a guide and trusted friend...

-- from grissim's "billiards"

Chang and Pagulayan come to mind.
I agree that Hopkins may be the besy example. Grady Mathews excelled in his day with a short stroke.

The shortest, most compact stroke ever - and one of the best ever.

I agree with you, Allen Hopkins, for sure

Rodney Morris took to shooting without a windup. And some Irish guy from Jersey.

This clip shows Corey Deuel getting incredible action on the 2 ball with a compact stroke.

I have seen another clip of Corey’s hand action on a powerful shot. It is much like the hand action taught by Barry Stark.

Alex immediately came to mind, but Allen Hopkins' stroke defies explanation.
