This year will be my first time going to the Derby and I am very excited. Playing in the 9 ball. Looking to get advice on getting the most out of the visit. "Inside scoop" from those who have been before. Every place/ city/ tournament? has its quirks and fun finds. Thank you in advance, any tips or stories appreciated. Also will take any advice on food around there.

Have breakfast by the check in-out desk.
Hang around Big Truck’s action room...second floor...and other rooms near it.
Watch the straight pool on the second floor....
...you also get a great view of the stream table from above.

The "inside scoop" is that Graeter's makes the best ice cream you'll ever eat.

Have fun. DCC is great.

The tournament room is a long walk from the hotel. I would limit your number of trips back and forth or use the complimentary golf cart shuttle (tip the driver) to keep yourself fresh. You can get a good view of the accustats arena from the 2nd floor. Spend some time up there. There are tables in every room and you never know what's going to be going on. Big Truck's room usually has some great action going almost the whole time. It is upstairs then to the left. The other non-streamed action room is going to be right at the top of the stairs. Food is mediocre to be honest except for the Graeter's ice cream. There is a bbq place there that isn't too bad, but everything is going to be kind of just ok and expensive. There are some restaurants down the road in New Albany if you have a car.

I have gone every year and I have never missed a DCC.

There is something for everyone, I go just for the One-Pocket now, but in the past I was there for the entire tournament.

Cue booths have shrunk, to just a few. Years past there were plenty of mini tournaments that most of my friends enjoyed.

I had a friend $takehorse here on AZ that I think never saw a tournament match, and just went to see the "action" games.

Probably the best part of our sport is the accessibility to all of the players current and of those of the past. Just introduce yourself and have a great conversation.

If you see me stop me and say hello.

I've been to Derby a few times as a spectator, driving about 3 hrs, staying at the venue. It's a BLAST, even just watching (first time I went got on the elevator up to my room with Reyes and Bustamonte).

Small fridge in the room, no microwave, rooms BIG and pretty nice. Bit of a walk from the rooms to the playing area, no big deal, there's a golf cart shuttle I never used. Been to the casino a few times for yucks, not a gambler, looked pretty typical.

If possible, bring (or stop and get) water/beverages(BEER!)/snacks and something more substantial (subs/bagels/etc.) - food there a bit-to-very pricey and only so-so (never tried the buffet or steak house). Well, everything has it's price...

A great pool experience you'll very much enjoy.

Speaking of "scoop."

You will think Ben and Jerry's is cheap when you get some of that casino priced Graeters ice cream.

Try to save the shuttle cart for those who need it.

It's a long walk like Brent said, but some people have a really hard time with that walk due to a bum leg or back.

If you have the time and the extra expense the One Pocket / Banks Hall of Fame dinner is Wednesday night. Scott Frost is being inducted and lots of big name players will be in attendance. For tickets check onepocket.org or Steve Booth

Bad news, (or good news for some) Graeters is gone for now as there are renovations going on to bring the casino off the water and into the property.

I really really really really really really hope you are joking. It may sound pathetic but I genuinely look forward to binging on that ice cream for a week every Derby. Sigh :(
