Dean is staying out of the design part and trusting
the cue maker more

if i designed it ,it would look just like my last one

or stated another way,my next one will look like this

thanks bob,you are the greatest

dean

look at those veneer colors,i love them,so tastefull

that fancy buckeye burl is something else

everything goes together

now,you guys see why I call Bob owen

"KING OF THE BOX CUE"

I love BOX CUES

I have been blessed to have owned several by almost every top cue maker in the country
My first one was a Gus Szamboti, that is what got me hooked

The basic idea was an Ivory box framed with mitered veneers
99% used ivory boxes and I still love them

But when Bob started using beautiful woods in the boxes
I thought he was really on to something, the wood in the box adds a certain beauty

When I look at this one with the beautiful wood wrap in buckeye burl that matches the
same wood in the boxes,I think you can see why I really love Bob owen box cues\\\

Just a note, unless a cue has boxes above the wrap area,I don't think it is a box cue

it may have boxes below like a Runde R 12 and be a really knock out cue,
but I don't think it is a box cue, really only a term of identification or
classification

i think Ernie made the first box cue ever for Eddie Kelly the great champion
if I am not mistaken Will Prout owns that cue today and it is still a fabulous cue

However I think even will, will agree that Bob Owen has made a great contribution to
the advacenent of the box cue

Dean and Bob,
Another masterful creation!
Bob, you sure got hold of some championship Buckeye burl along the way.
I have seen several of your recent cues with the burl. Outstanding!
Great veneers, great ring work!
Dean, you should take pride in this one, for sure!

You are absolutely correct, Bob Owen has made some stunner box cues
that were owned by some of the world's top players (Ochoa, etc.).

Dean, you are also correct that a box cue, by definition, has boxes (rectangles)
in the forearm. A cue with rectangles behind the wrap area is said
to have windows, but is not a box cue.

I only add the following comments because Dean asked, earlier in this thread above:
Yep, I still have the first box cue ever made, by Ernie Gutierrez of Ginacue in 1969.
I also have the second box cue ever made, also by Ernie with special
documentation by him..........And a great story in its history.
It looks radically different than the first one. I've never shown pictures of it.

As a side note, I also have the first (and only) (and fancy) Kersenbrock cue. Documented. A beauty.
And Dennis Searing's first box cue. A beauty that was my daily player for years. I love it.
The poster just above me (Phil Dade) sure has a home run of a Searing too!

Bob,
I just looked at the pictures of this box cue again, and wow, you got the placement
of the burl markings in the handle just perfect, with the darker burl in the center of the handle
and the lighter wood at the front and back of the handle area. Just outstanding!

Thanks for sharing the pictures!
Congratulations on a whopper Dean!
