I know your LO groups players with colors, but how do the tournaments differ?

We have 16 week league sessions (8 teams) and 8 week short sessions (4 teams).
If you are the "high points" winner, you skip playoffs and earn a spot at the City Cup.
The remaining teams play in the playoffs for an additional spot at the City Cup.
Two teams from each division go to city cup. I think there are 8 divisions over here near New Orleans.
Teams compete at the "City Cup" and the winners become "LTC Qualified" for the local team championships in Biloxi, MS.
At the LTC, you play for a spot to go to Vegas.

Is that how it works for everyone?

Ours is basically the same.

Last session we played the a team that already qualified for tri-cup the session before and we lost to them... they let us go try in 2nd Chance. Nice enough of them. Especially since our LO is a pecker

we have 8 8 ball divisions

7 9 ball divisions

6 scotch doubles divisions.

here is how our system works in 8 and 9 ball ...not sure about scotch doubles but i assume it is about the same.

the winner of each session qualifies for cities or ltc if you prefer.

the top 50% finishers of each session have playoff s and the winners got to tri cups. 16 teams in both my sun night 8 and 9 ball divisions so that means 4 teams go to tri cups. not sure how many from the other dic=visions go but we usually have 20-25 teams in tri cups.

the tri cups are split into 2 brackets. the winners of each bracket go to cities. the winners on the losers side go to cities ...so that means 4 teams from the tri cups go to cities.

then we have what we call the best of the rest. the lo takes all the bottom dwellers who failed to qualify for playoffs and holds a tourny where the winner goes to the tri cups

tri cups and best of the rest are held after each session.

all the teams who qualify for cities have to stay in the top 50 % each session.

the cities are broken into 2 brackets and the winner of each bracket goes to vegas.

wer send 2- 8 ball teams....2- 9 ball teams... 2- scotch doubles teams to vegas each year. we also sent a masters team and a ladies team although each division had no more than 4 teams in it.

here is some thing that i think is unique to our area.

the 2nd place finisher in cities has an automatic berth into next years cities. you dont have to win a session .... you don't have to go to playoffs or tri cups.....heck you don't even have to stay in the top 50 % each session.

the only stipulation there is....you have to have 4 original members from last years cities team.

last year my sun night 9 ball team went to vegas. the same sun night team came in 2 in 8 ball cities and is automatically in this years cities. so far we have managed to keep 5 original members from last years team.

We beat the second place team, 7-5 tonight, so we should still be in first place (unless the 3rd place team did something silly like 15-0 or the like).

I beat a strong SL6, 4-3 tonight. Pretty pumped. I'm now 10-0 for the session.

good shooting dub. keep that up and you will be a 6 next session.:grin-square:

i played tonight. they dumped a 3 on me. 4-2 race and i won 4-1. shoulda been 4-0 but i got careless and made an e-8 the 4th rack.

my lo plays on this team with me. the 1st thing he said when he saw me was that he saw my score sheet for sunday night and said it musta been a heckuva match.

he laughed when i told him how i hooked my opponent on the 8 in the last rack and he was muttering and cussing . he asked ..did you get upset about the damn bastard remark. i told him no that i was laughing about it.

he knows we have a pretty serious rivalry between us.

Yes except that we only have long sessions and they vary anywhere from 14 to the current 18 week session and 10 teams. Top 3 teams and a wildcard team at end of session play in playoffs to go to tri-cups. I thought it was just the top team that goes. May be top two. Winners at tri-cups go to LTC for a chance to go to Vegas.

Our team had a great night last night. We hammered our opponent and ended up winning 12-1. We are now in first place alone by 3 points with 3 weeks to go. This is after being dead last out of ten teams as late as 8 weeks ago. Won my match against this arrogant bastard SL6 5-1 who twice cheated his way out of blatant fouls insisting that they were clean hits. Rather than getting into an argument I just played from where the CB came to rest. Almost another rackless patch but he managed to barely take rack number 5 after I got on the hill 4-0. I am still in 2nd place in TG with my teammate in 1st by one percentage point. He is 8-2 and I am 11-3. He won his match last night as well. This will be three straight sessions in first place if we can hang on.

Decided to go play 8-ball last night, did I ever mention how much I hate barbox 8-ball?

I played a younger kid ranked as an SL5.

In the fourth game, the kid broke dry, and I ran out. The kid got a little annoyed and his captain shouts "Don't worry about it, he got lucky, this guy sucks!" Seriously? Show a little class.

I could probably give this kid the 6 and all the breaks playing 9-ball, 13-2 playing one hole, and give him 8 games on the wire in a race to 10 in 10-ball. He was far from a player, but seeing that their team plays on Valley's with 5 1/2" pockets, I can see why he's a 5.

I'm over playing 8-ball in any pool league. I find 8-ball brings out the scum and 9-ball brings out the players that actually want to play pool.

Nice my man....great session! We are in first by 4 points with 2 weeks to go. The next 4 teams below us are all LTC Qualified (means they are qualified for the big tournament i.e. Masters), so in a sense they have no reason to try to get points other than to foil our plans on winning points if they are scared to play us in higher level play. I know several who are :D.

I was going to take tomorrow off possibly as I do not like the tables at the bar we are playing at, but since we are in first and I have a shot at TG, I may have to go to help coach and try to close this out.

I have reached a point in league play that I find myself thinking, "I don't even want to be here".....with the drunks, smoke filled clothes, bickering, sandbaggers, waiting hours to play 30 minutes, then the opponent only has to race to 2 or 3, I mean really? I guess it is the sandbagging that aggravates me the most..i am not wanting to put a damper on those that enjoy league play but the question was asked. .well, these days I find it better to go in the afternoon and find some action....it is the total opposite in every sense of the word of what I just stated regarding league play. I have decided to get in the number of matches I need and wait for the city/nationals. then I will contribute to the team effort.

I'm with you on that one. I enjoy walking into a pool room on my time and my terms.

I try to play first every league night and leave before 9pm. Last night my eight ball match was over in 30 minutes, sometimes it takes hours.

Couldn't agree more............

Waited 90 mins plus for the other team to show,............ they had 1 player at starting time. Then they all had to warm-up 30 mins. Four players including myself showed up 1/2 hour early and by the time they wanted to play, we were wasted on playing each-other :boring2::boring2::boring2:

so now its match-time and I have little gumption as it is clearly "a move" to take advantage. Thing is : on paper they are a slightly better team, during match play, we usually do well against them. I have a few ppl that I can play in cheap action as opposed to this B/S , so APA team is in twilight AFAIC.
Oh, we also lost our S/L 3, so we can't play a full team due to that 19/23 rule. Curiously, my Cap't shows up every OTHER week now.:frown::shakehead:

I can't imagine playing in a league or on a team that I didn't enjoy being around. Regardless of whether I play first or not I always stay until the last match is over. As part of a team I believe it is my obligation that I signed up for when I agreed to play on the team. If I "didn't want to be there", I simply would resign from the team.

Thats BS. Don't understand how you would allow that to happen. This can't be an APA league as this would be a forfeit.

WHAAA!?

I wait 15 minutes and start the first match with that one player. When that match finishes they have 10 minutes to get another guy to show up after that they forfeit. Ain't nobody got time fer dat!

here it is Plain & simple:

MY Cap't did not show. Co-Cap't was there, I said something twice, and the 2nd time he started 1st match with the 1 player from their team.

Their 1 player was their Cap't ,... and the league rep. he asked clemency(sp?), was granted by my Co-Cap't. (He;s tooooo nice!)
Their team had work/school issues,...... (ok, sure work & school get out at 5pm, we started 8:30 PM, League starts at 7PM. ) <----- thas why I said, itsa move.

Last night was IT ! Some nice guys on the team, But I don't care for the cap't , or this B/S !! :frown:

Agreed.

The people on my team are my friends. And I like to think that I'm friends with most of the players on the other teams, too. It's a night out with friends, and some friendly competition.

If it wasn't fun for me, I sure wouldn't keep doing it. (Which is why I broke up my 8-ball team after last session. It wasn't fun.)

It's easy to say this, as my team is in first place, so we're all pretty happy. But my 9-ball team is in last place, and I still wanna go play that night, too.

I guess we're lucky here. It's a fun league, at least to me.

Just Coached

Last week I waited around all night but the match ups never worked. I didnt feel like playing a sandbaggin 3 in a 6-2 8 ball race or 75-24 9 ball race so I just coached. I swear I had more fun than I have in a long time. I coached my 3 over a 6 in 8 ball with some timely safes and the 6 didnt even get to the hill. In 9 ball I did the same with a 4 over a 2 by keeping him from going for everything and basically saftying himself. I kep telling him that the only way he loses is by scratching because ball in hands guaranty at least one point every time. Anyway, won big in 8 and are in 2nd, 9 ball is a different story. Come on wild card!

I did, the captain said, "no you are not, you will stay on and if I need you I will call you, you are second best on the team"......so, I stayed on....

We played last night in playoffs. I ducked one of the strongest 7's in the area. Almost felt bad about it, but we weren't about to waste a near-guaranteed win by throwing me at him and hoping that I play close to top speed. We were up 2-0, their 7 got a shut out, then I got a shut out and we finished off with another win. The 9b side wasn't so lucky and got beat up pretty good.

Looking forward to playing at home on our Diamonds next week. I got there last night after playing and was told all 4 tables had been busy for hours and they didn't really slow down until 2am when I left. I may have a tough time trying to find table time now! I've created a monster..

We've got playoffs for 9b on Sunday. Missed buying in by about 15 or 20 points.

Sounds like just about everybody's doing well right now. Representing AZB.

Well that's your call. Sounds like selfishness on the part of your captain not to respect your wishes though. I would've said sorry, I'm out. See ya. Hope it works out for you or at least improves some.
