i keep hearing about joint lift

every gina i ever saw had joint lift or looked like it to us
but on the lathe there was no wobble, cue makers said it had something to do with the way it was tapered

not bad at all

i bet that is what you are experiencing with the conical taper
not that i really know but i have seen cues like this that played perfect and did not run out on the lthe

RIGHT...………
Also referral to as " COMPOUND TAPER" …..
Pretty sure ANOTHER DPK IDEA
I bet put this cue a lathe between centers-
spin nice and true "
SOUTH WEST SHOP ALWAYS takes their time wood curing and construction
BTW
SUPER-SHARP CUE
GLWS

i was always told that rolling a cue on a table only shows that the cue is round. bore site it like a rifle to see if it’s straight and if you need further confirmation, spin it on a lathe

I agree with this 100%, rolling a cue on a table is like the Blue Book of cues...its a cheap guide at best. If a cue is way off its easy to tell when rolled, you can also tell if a pin is off. Sighting down a cue the old school way is my preferred method though. If I were buying this SW and rolled it or looked down it I would have no issues but I know a lot of people are real pickey, esp when it comes to a bargaining factor. When it comes to SW cues and what most people call the "SW roll", I might be the minority but I think thats BS lol. IMO thats a way to still get top dollar out of a cue thats not straight. The SW cues I have had in the past have all rolled flat and been near perfect when looking down them. Just like any other cuemaker, SW isnt changing anything on their specs from cue to cue. The last one I sold was from 94' and was laser straight no matter how you examined it.

I have a real nice group of cues coming from Rick Howard soon and theyll all be for sale. It would be like me saying "they have the typical Rick Howard roll" if they werent all good. Not only would that not be true it would also get me cut off from getting anymore lol. My personal playing cue, that will never be for sale, I have left outside in the middle of summer and also in the freezing cold for days on end. Just to see what happens, and it still has the typical Rick Howard roll...which is straight as the day I got it

so trying to hijack your thread, but yeah, my 95 southwest sits in my case, used to be a thomas, now a jb, in my trunk, 4 seasons and is always there when i need it. never rolled it on a table, never even bore sited it. had it at southwest last year for some new shafts and they told me everything spun true. that’s good enough for me. 24 years, never an issue, knock on wood.
