lol. The break has always been a trick shot and they'll figure the gaps soon enough.

This is the crux of the matter. This break rule has had the desired effect, as the reward for making a ball on the break has been reduced. There is, just as Matchroom wanted, more back and forth play. Next: mandatory 1/4 inch between each ball. New racks made for it too.
