Actually, a better version of this logic is to imagine having a larger tip and removing a thin outer layer to make it smaller. Would that affect your stroke accuracy?I think you're misinterpreting your experience - it contradicts geometry.
Think of two tips with different widths but the same curvature. The smaller one is identical with the inner part of the larger one (with a small layer removed from the outer edge) - so unless you're trying to hit on the outermost edge of the tip, either tip will contact the CB on the same spot if moved the same distance from center ball.
