been familiar with the game, seen it played on screen, but a friend and I tried a race for the first time and man it was tough!
I'm no great player, but compared to 9-ball, I was really impressed at how much more difficult I found playing 10.
it's not just an extra ball:thumbup:

Just kidding

In all seriousness, it has a different feel compared to 9 ball for sure. I dont think its so much the extra ball as it is playing with different rules. But thats just IMO.

Play it with Texas Express rules and it will seem a little closer to right. ;)

ha! not just shootin pool huh..
I like no slop, but couldn't figure out the break and just found it hard to find my groove in it..
had to play a lot of safes and couldn't run much.
what's texas express rules?

Basic 9ball rules. I like the safety play(not called) and the call-shot/ pass-back option of ten-ball. We play where you can carom/combo the ten but pretty much WPA rules other than that.

I agree. To me it's not so much the extra ball or the no-slop but being unable to figure out how to consistently make a ball on the break. It really makes you appreciate what SVB does on his 10b break.

Texas Express was an organization that ran a nine ball tour about 1995 (within a decade or so;)) that introduced many of the rules currently in nine ball such as no ball spots and cue ball is in hand anywhere. Prior to those rules, any ball pocketed on a foul spotted and "in hand" was behind the line. There were a lot of other details, some of which are no longer used.

I agree with your POV. I also feel that 10-ball is for the more advanced player. It also easily exposes one’s true level of play.

How do you break 8-ball? 10-ball rack is a smaller triangle of the 8-ball rack. For starters, you can try breaking like in 8-ball.

I've recently switched my main practice from running 8 ball racks (one group then the other) to throwing out 10 balls and trying to run them in rotation.

I ranked number 1 in our 9 ball league with way more table runs than anyone else, and with just the extra ball on the table, running out is much more difficult.
