I will no longer compete in them. The last one I was in I tied for 4/5th and heard the final match didn't get done until 6AM or something. I don't think I got out until after 2AM.

I think the problem was the TD, not the game being played.

That's fair. No shot clock so that didn't help at all. They always try to squeeze too many players into that particular hall with 6 tables.
I would also wonder why they would play 10b there instead of 9b. I would guess the average mid level players match takes 50% longer playing 10b than 9b for matches of equal game length. [mention]AtLarge [/mention] probably has stats to prove me wrong though.
I think a ten ball game for pro players is is no worse than 15% longer than nine ball, which is close to 6 minutes. @AtLarge probably doesn't have a lot of data on the typical local room player. I think six ball would have been more appropriate.
I remember when I ran room tournaments of nine ball in this area, the standard was a race to six. The average time was very close to 45 minutes per match and the average match had nine or ten games, so under five minutes per game. Very few of the players "messed about" -- there was no pondering and measuring and air stroking and chalking and chalking and chalking.

Predator/WPA World 10-Ball Championship
Yes, for both 10-balls on the break and early combos and caroms on the 10-ball, the Predator/WPA World Championship calls for spotting the 10-ball.
Other Predator 10-Ball Events
When these events started in 2021 (then the CSI/Predator US Pro Billiard Series), making the 10-ball on a legal break was a game win. That changed beginning with the March 2022 Las Vegas Open. The 10-ball on the break has been spotted for more than 4 years now in the Predator 10-Ball events (currently called the Predator Pro Billiard Series).
Early combos or caroms on the 10-ball, if called, were game winners in all of those events that I watched through the Jacksonville event in Dec. 2025. I did not watch the 2026 events in Las Vegas or St. Louis. But I did watch the most recent event, in Austria, and the 10-ball was spotted on early combos or caroms. I don't know whether the event in Austria was the first time for that change.
