10,OOO Added 9 Ball.....South Padre Island,Texas

Was that tournament this weekend, too? There sure were MANY happenings this past weekend: IPT Qualifier, Joss Tour Ocean State Championship, Tiger/Planet Pool Tour Season Opener, and this one.

I heard it through the grapevine that a New England player was competing in this event. I'm standing by waiting to hear the results of this one myself. :)

Usually ...

It is a first weekend in February. You might be a week early on this one.

No it was this last weekend. I was there competing. Those in attendance included Sylver Ochoa, returning champ David G, David Henson, Charlie Mora, Lil Jon Macias. I got sent home early so I don't know how it ended up. I can tell you that the race to 11 on both sides was a killer to the players. 1.00 a game was brutal. 125 to enter and then 1.00 a game really ate at the old wallet. There were several players who agreed to just race to 7 or 9 especially on the 1 loss side. I guess they just wanted our quarters. This is the first tourney I've ever been to with races to 11 on the one loss side.

Uhm, you left out a couple of tidbits... like who won?

Gotta read the whole thing mate.

Yea, I am waiting on results as well of a friend of mine.

I didnt know about the 1.00/game to go along with the 125.00 entry. Race to 11, thats a costly tourney.

Yep, it was costly alright. The thing that cost the most was after hours activities at the local club.
I'll call and see if I can get get some finals info.

One of the guys I played told me that AZB's ironman took 5/6 last year and just made his money back. That's pretty lame. I don't think I'll be going back next year.

The Swanee memorial in Hollywood. Wow it is amazing how many great players out there when you read all the names in 3 or 4 different tournamnents. Makes you realize what great pool there is going to be when the 150 best in the world eventually are all at one venue.

Thanks for the info. Was hoping Jason won it. Just havent talked to him yet since he returned.

It was a good tourney... like Todd, I got sent home early, but (except for the last match) was pleased with how I played. Let my dress blow up over my head in my last match and couldn't pull it back down.

Met some great people there. Hillbilly was there, galvanting around, talking to everyone. Ironman was there. Really nice gentleman. I knew you were there, Todd, but don't think we got to talk any... I was busy running around and playing pool!

All in all, a great weekend. I got there with a 102° fever and the flu, but played anyways. First match, was up 9-5 and let it go... damned embarassing. Second match... I guess it was pretty easy, but not sure, cause the other guy didn't shoot much. Third match... well, I should've won it, but flu, fever and just general feeling of "worn out" got me and couldn't concentrate on anything. I played half-assed pool in that match and got exactly what I deserved, but man, between the NyQuil, DayQuil and every over the counter med I could find that might dry me up, I sure felt good losing! (at least I THINK I remember feeling good!) :)

Later,
Bob

Cane, next time lemme know who you are man. I'm always up to meeting a fellow AZBer. I had fun too and I agree, ironman is a class guy. Too bad I drew Dave Henson in the first match. Second time to play him, same result. After losing my first match, I knew that I'd have to get like third or better to pay for all the quarters, so that kinda took the wind out of my sails.

Todd, I'm sure you saw me and I saw you... I was the big guy hanging around near the Tournament Booth and Jerico's Booth all the time. If you forget me, you surely wouldn't forget my S.O.'s boobs! Very large! LOL

I'm coming to Houston in April. Denis (strictland) told me there was a good tourney there sometime in April, (Houston Open???) so I'll hit it if he sends me details on time and date. We'll have to meet then.

Later

So you guys are saying it was a barbox tourny with $125 entry, AND you had to put in $1 in quarters every game?WTF......

Gerry

It was a 125 entry fee (150 the day of the event) and 1.00 to get the balls every game. Race to 11 on BOTH sides. Very expensive.
