1000 character limit in PM's too low

Forum administrator: Could you please increase the maximum character limit in private messages to maybe 10,000, or get rid of it altogether? 1000 characters is only enough for about 2 paragraphs, making detailed messages impossible unless we continue in a separate private message.

Thanks.

I agree Nick. I would like to see at least 5000 characters, anyway. I wrote a PM a couple days ago and couldn't send it.

I think a mailbox box size limit would be preferable to a message size limit.

Personally, I think if you need to write that much, exchange e-mail addy's.
Problem solved... :)

Some people do not give thier email. You could PM a short message asking for an email addy, I suppose.

Bump...

Am I the only one who sees this as an area in need of improvement?

From the number of replies, it sure seems like you are the only one.

Maybe it's because this is'nt even close to being pool related?

When I first saw this thread I really didn't think much about it. Then Jimmy M. sent me 2 messages and mentioned the limit. He didn't send his life story, just a couple of questions. When I tried to answer them, I found out about the limit. It could use a little increase in my opinion. Sam

I've also had to split a PM into 2 parts. Wasn't my life story, either.

Ditto on that! I have not only received PMs in two parts, but I have had to send them that way as well. I agree the length of characters being lengthened would be a good move.

He's just being a PITA. This site is always slow, and is now so slow I'm thinking of bailing. This will probably please the PITA.

Frank_Glenn, the uploading of the forum is slow at times on my end, and other times, it is very quick. It may be due to the number of users at one time that can make the site run slow on occasion.

I was run off this forum one time by a poster from Canada who threatened to break my teeth and bash my face in, labeling me just like the PITA with his "roadie riff raff" comment, because I was responding to the ridiculous post by Silencer entitled "Mike Sigel a Jew...Discuss." It would appear that the PITA thinks his is the only opinion that matters, and if others do not agree with him, he posts pictures, like the one of a monkey with the name of "ManlyShot" printed on it. Now I am singled out by the PITA on this thread as well, a simple thread relating to the length of a PM.

I'll be right behind you, Frank_Glenn, on your way out! This used to be a safe haven from PITAs.

ManlyShot, Sorry you feel that way!!!!!

I doubt it. I think you just want to have the last word on this thread.

If you want to single me out on every thread I post on and argue, if this is acceptable behavior on AzBilliards, so be it. I have a right to state my opinion about any topic, just like you. Your have now labeled me as a "liar" and posted a picture of a monkey with my name on it on two totally unrelated threads than the thread you held a different opinion than myself.

I think it comes down to the fact that there are different types of people on this board. Putting cuemakers and cumaking understudies aside.....You have POOL PLAYERS (and those striving to become)....who actually have to DEAL with certain individuals in the professional world of pool, once they reach a certain level. They therefore have more specific information about certain people DUE to this.
Then you have the POOL FAN. Someone who is more concerned about taking pictures with themselves and pros...getting autographs...opening up websights, and basically worshipping whatever ground the pros walk on. SOMETIMES in an attempt to "UP" their status because NOW....after tons of BROWN NOSING, they can be like..."HI PROPOOLPLAYER". To the amazement of their friends, instead of being just another fan who the pros would otherwise ignore.

It has been my experience that FANS..seem to think that when the pro signs an autograph..or takes a picture with them..(especially the brown nose type of fan)....that this somehow makes them a great friend. Knowing enough professionals, i think it's more a case of the PUBLIC RELATIONS...and a part of their JOB.

You've got to love it when some FAN...gets all bent out of shape cause some POOLPLAYER is bashing on their hero.

But..in their defense....how are they gonna know the truth...they're just a fan.
They don't KNOW what goes on. They COULDN'T know.
It might be different if the fan came up to get a picture...and got his camera taken and smashed...with a nice.."get out of my face" to boot.

but THIS type of attitude.....is what some of us pool players have come up against when trying to deal with the powers that be. Simple as that!

Ignorance is bliss? Yeah RIGHT!
Some of these FANS just have to GET A GRIP!

Until now, I have refused to enter into this pissing contest for the simple reason I like all the parties involved.

My first post on AZ was a simple challenge to any woman to play Reed Pierce a $10,000 set of 9 ball. I was immediately attacked by the little Green Guy and others. I made the assumption that it was easy to say, no thank you or present a counter proposal. I am a gambler. I have allways been one. I enjoy it. I also made the assumption that there were other gamblers on this board and would not take my challenge personally. I was wrong. Since that time, the little Green Guy and I have gotten along well.

There are a handfull of posters here that I totally enjoy reading their posts. I refuse to name a number one favorite but none do I respect more than ManlyShot. In the 500 posts he has made he has yet to attack any poster here, without being attacked first. I am not a Charlie Williams fan and the UPA, I believe to be, a self aggrandizing entity. Why should I or anyone else be attacked for voicing our opinion?

The only reason I have entered this fray is to try to talk ManlyShot out of leaving AZ. You too, Frank.

I am personally asking all involved in this to simply drop the fighting. Agree to disagree and keep AZ, as slow as it has gotten, a fun place to be.

Well said, Hemi: It takes all types.

That's why they make Almond Joy and Mounds.

I think there is a pretty broad spectrum between those 2 types of members that you're overlooking. I suspect there are a whole bunch like me of varying degrees of skill who'll never be a "player", but are striving to be the best they can possibly be and really don't care too much about the fan part except to observe and learn. I also suspects there are a lot of people who could be deemed fans who are also busting butt to be the best they can be. The types of pool involved people who frequent this board are probably as numerous and varied as the types of people in the population at large. The fact that to be here you've got to be PC literate probably filters a little bit, but not much.
JMHO.

As to the original point, I don't think Frank or Manly will or should leave.

Yeah yeah yeah Ok...you got me...
....BUT those players who might never achieve "PLAYER" status...go under the category of (STRIVING) like i said before. (so much for trying to keep it simple)

and yes....i have come across the STRIVING PLAYER...who is also a FAN. (or maybe i should call them a SUPERFAN cause they really go off the deep end)

They want to play well...and put in long hours practicing, but when Pro's come into the picture....they are the first ones following them around like faithful puppydogs. Kind of funny to watch. Sitting next to them...trying to start conversation...pictures....autographs....the works. When it's so obvious that the PLAYER/PRO just wants to be left alone.

Regardless of how many differrent facets the personalities on this board take.

The people that i was talking about...(in certain parts of this thread) represent to me....the 2 extremes.
People on the inside (players and their close associates)...and people who don't know better. (SUPERFAN)

I rather enjoy Frank and Manly's posts. Be a loss for this board for them to leave.
As for the SUPERFAN who's ready to cry cause someone BASHED their hero....
BOO HOO SNIFFLE!
