I think the only cases you can compare to the fellini are the new GTF replica cases.

As far as I know, they are the only mfg that wraps the leather on the ends.


I have owned both Ron thomas and now a GTF Replica, IMO the GTF is far the superior case.

I'm curious because I'm considering getting either a GTF or Thomas.

I strongly urge anyone considering buying a high end case (or cue for that matter) to get hands on experience with the case they are thinking about

before purchasing. Everyone has their own standards and personal preferences. Any one persons opinion of quality is just that, an opinion.

What makes them superior? I'm just curious of the different constructions.
 
Sorry for the lack of details...

The biggest and most important difference (imo) is the liner. I think the Ron Thomas is good and protects your cue just fine, but the GTF is better imo. With the Ron Thomas it is a fairly thin felt seperator for your butt/shafts. With the GTF case it is a much thicker padded liner that holds your cue tight.

With the GTF cases, you can shake the case and the cue doesn't slide around.

Again, I think the Ron Thomas is a great case, and would still be my favorite, if I had not seen the GTF.

Who knows what will be collectible in the future. GTF cases are marked with the year of their making just in case someone in the future cares to know that information. My goal as a casemaker is to try and improve on what has gone before me.

As far as the GTF cases are concerned I built them in such a way as to be an improvement over the Fellini, Centennial, George and Thomas cases that I was able to study. At least in my opinion the method of construction is superior.

I am not too concerned about the future except to try and build my cases in such a way that they are still around in the future. :-)

What about Sam Eagles (sp?) I thought i read somewhere that he doesn't make cases anymore.
 
I have an original 1 X 2 Fellini, circa 1979. It's a little scuffed up but still 100% servicable, and it also has the label inside. Those cases are somewhat impractical because of the lack of a pouch to carry anything. I hang onto mine for nostalgia. I never take it out of the house.

IMHO, the cases that will skyrocket in value next are Justis originals. Jack is 69 years old, has sold the rights to the name Justis, and is still making cases at present, but who knows how long that will be true. I hope he makes them for as long as he wants to. They're the industry standard in high end cases and the choice of all the champions...Tom

no fellini did it first kinda, Ron Thomas cases are great I have one, top notch workmanship, its elephant and he did a brilliant job on the seams, everything, Fellini cases took along before they went up, I have a its george case 1X2 and a pouch/sling with a fellini clasp on it I got in 86 for $120, its travelled alot of miles and looks almost new and might be worth $150-$200 if I'm luckey enough to find the right buyer. so in 22 years I might be ahead $50 maybe.

there is really no reason for Ron Thomas cases to go up, very few brands of cases ever go up in price.
