11-7 is not a domination

Not a domination, but it was fairly comfortable. The US kept it close, but never really put Europe under pressure.

As a European fan, there was never really a worrying moment where I thought they were going to let things slip, from partway through day one onwards.

Apoligies...they beat the crap out of the DOG performance the year before by Archer, Hatch, and Morris (11-2). This year they did even better, and had several chances to win it all.

Definitely improving. They broke well this year, looked more settled in general. Like I said, I thought Europe were comfortable, but the US have a lot of positives to take from this year.

11-7 with what 3 hill/hill matches that they lost? Much closer than last year for sure.

MUCH closer than last year.

To be completely clear though, there were 8 hill-hill matches during the tournament and the teams split them 4-4.

Thanks, apologies for the #s being off as I didn't watch it. From the sounds of it, some good progress was made by the US despite the loss.

They outplayed USA solidly.

Still a couple sets were brutal loses. Particularly Bergman in his singles when he had the great comeback and the cueball checked up off the rail and then behind the 9.

Bergman and Woodward were the stars of team USA. Those boys can play.

It may not be domination, but it wasn't close, and it was an easily predictable outcome, unfortunately.

On top of that, it isn't easily comparable to previous years, because you would expect USA to do much better on home turf, with a home crowd. That makes this result even more disappointing.

Let's just look at things for a second. If Justin hadn't rolled on that 9, if Albin hadn't slopped that 9 cross side, if Neils hadn't had that golden break...

Rant over lol.

I think America played better this year but better doesn't mean winner...

Congrats Euro. America is destroying you next year!!

The 11-7 is not domination! Nor the 11-5 last year! 11-2 2 years ago was pure dominance! The US team is trying to rebuild leaving behind a much older team (Strickland-Archer-Hatch etc) and basically trying to shape the new face of the US pool! And that takes time! But it's definitely in the right direction!

If SVB hadn't fluked a ball in a hill hill match...
If Dechaine hadn't fluked a ball in a hill hill match...
Etc.

There's always next year. Both teams played well. I don't think Europe ever felt threatened in the slightest.

Matt...All matches are archived at geniepool's youtube account for you to view at your convenience. Some really great matches played this week (and a few not-so-great). Much thanks to geniepool!

couldnt get out.............

The USA couldn't get out ..........they dogged it over, and over. The bright side is Bergman, and Woodward. Love watching those guys play.........the others were torture ..... Young guns obviously dealt with the whole situation much better. The only reason the score was a li'l better this year, is because Europe didn't play as well.

Pool

So, this means we won't win another Mosconi Cup for at least three years. I was rooting for the US, but they were outplayed by team Europe, they have better players than we do. period

Unfortunately the sets are short. I understand why I think. $$$
The thing is anybody can beat anybody in short matches. Given the fact there were enough Hill Hill situations to win this, says we were in it the entire time. The coin simply landed on the wrong side.

Both sides dogged crucial shots.

No disgrace I can see. The formula is working. Hope Mark can come back. This is all good.

Now get back to work!! We don't care about no stinkin short matches. We Be Winnin This Thing Next Year!!
