Anyone ever indulged in this.
The 11th ball is racked in the middle of the bottom row.

You will want to use an odd number if you want to play last ball tie breakers. 11 balls will give you a possible 5-5 score with a run at the last ball. It is easier to keep track of your score and your opponents score by using an odd number of balls and counting the number of balls remaining on the table. If you play 1p long enough, we all do this subconsciously. An even number gets confusing.

9 ball 1p is only 4-4+1, maybe not enough to may it interesting, but provides for a consolidated rack, though a weird diamond shape which changes the shape of the "catcher's mitt"

11 ball 1p is 5-5+1, a bit better, and maybe more optimal for a 7' table. You get a triangular rack, but you need to place the extra ball somewhere. Middle diamond on the short rail makes sense.

13 ball 1p gives you a spotted ball on the rail and a weird rack.

I see nothing wrong with 11 balls, and is probably better than other options.

Yes, I have-- at the request of Greg Sullivan years back. He was thinking of starting a 1P league on 7-footers, since so many rooms have them, and he ask a few of us to try it out to see what we thought.
