There has been other post about how 14.1 can help a player in the other games of pool but I believe it shows up in 8-ball the most.
The other night for the first week of this new 8-ball league. I went 5-0
It was a good feeling and it does not come often in the BCA Master's League that I play in, here in the Dallas area. We have 14 teams in our League. I was able to see patterns so easily when I walked up to the table from my knowledge of straight pool. Out of 5 games. I missed one shot. Ran the table every time.
Hopefully, I can keep up the good work.

Thats Great Mikey !

i agree 14.1 will help your overall game by 110%. just keep up the 14.1 and your game will keep growing stronger and stronger !

no doubt...and nice job mike....

p.s. I remember playing a friend once...we played straight pool and i ran out with a 40+ , then he racked some 8-ball, i broke and ran 6 racks before he gave me a really bad rack. He missed his first shot though and i ran out again, so he racked 9-ball and after i had run 3 more i just had to ask him what would be next... LOL...his answer was that he quit for the day...funny and some really nice outs i had there...

similar?

Approach the table for 14.1-
Identify balls with clear path to pocket,or pockets
Identify balls that have clear path after removing a ball that has clear path
Identify cluster that have to be addressed, form a plan to open them up
Identify break ball and a key ball to get on
Approach table for 8 ball-
.... no there isn't much in common:grin-square:

Did you sheet in the ball you missed,or how did you run-out every time?
Just jabbin at ya,Jack

He broke, nothing went in. All I had was a long shot to get sarted & missed it. He got up made 2 or 3 and got stuck, poor safety. I then ran out the table.

Thanks Steve & Sascha for the positive comments.

that's strong shooting straightman.... the last 8ball tourny i entered was "bar table rules". never again.... i was forced to play an obvious safety on my last ball and my moron opponent was incredulous and said; "what was that!?" needless to say it degraded from there. but yes, knowing 14.1 makes 8ball a lot easier, especially at the beginning when sizing up the table for stripes or solids.

Thanks

Thanks Sausage. Looking forward to next weeks match. Two seasons ago (8-ball) I ended up in the #1 position % wise in the League. It was the first time I ever took that spot. Last year, I was in the top 10.
Changing the subject for a second. Did you ever find a home for the dog that you posted us about? I hope so. It looked real sweet.

I agree, after playing straight pool clearing off those 8 balls is much easier.

Not to mention, in 8 ball you just have to think backwards through your pattern. My wife always calls me bass akwards, so I'm a natural.

Hussa,

of course i like straight-pool- but 8-ball i love, too- there s almost no game which can let you stay so long at the table. And on the other side there s almost no discipline in pool like 8-ball where a safety match can take sooooooo long :-)

And like Steve said it already (and G.Fels, too :p)- the better 14.1 Player will always take advantage from his knowledge in any discilpline! And this is still my opinion, too!

lg from overseas,

Ingo

Thanks Sausage. ...

mike: YES, thanks.... daisy and i lucked out. through the grapevine i found a wonderful woman who rescues dogs and knows my vet. after i sent her the hound doggy pics, she was smitten. we met at the vet's office and she took pregnant daisy. she recently sent me this pic. even though i lament not being in florida, i'm glad that i was here to save daisy and her EIGHT pups. a bad vibration in my 62, chev truck has been stalling me but i recently had an alum driveshaft built and soon i'll be good to go.

during my tenure in texas i've saved a LOT of dogs, snakes, turtles, frogs, cats et.... here are just a few:

8-Ball League

I had 4 wins, 1 lost tonight.
Did good. Out of 5 games, I had 2 opening break shots. The first one. I broke and did not make anything on the break. That is the game I lost.
The second time that it was my turn to break. I broke, made a ball and ran out.

Great shooting 14-1. I agree with you on the 8-ball advantage. I started playing a little over a year ago and this spring an old man taught me how to play straight pool. I've played a 150pt game once or twice a week since and at league tonight 8ball just seems easy on a barbox. Clusters aren't any big deal and the table seems so tiny after playing on a 9ft all the time. I'm not near as good as the rest of you, but I'm definately hooked. No high runs yet (27), but it's by far the best game on the planet.

14.1

Thanks for the great comment. It is good to heard from other players who appreciate 14.1 and can realize how it helps in other games.
27 is good and it is a good start. Keep posting and good luck to your game.

straightman: i encourage you to enter some regional tournaments. nobody can play 8ball better than you are playing. the only thing that will keep you from a major championship is a bad roll.....

i used to diss 8ball but now really enjoy the game as long as they aren't playing "bar table rules". i get great satisfaction when i size up the table, pick the best layout for stripes or solids and then run the table as planned. that's a huge part of the game; knowing which to pick on an open table.

League

Well, it looks like that I am back down to earth. Last night at the league's I went 3-2. So, that put me at 12-3 after three weeks. I'll take that speed for the rest of the season. (fingers crossed).
We had a really good match with this other team. It was 12 to 12. We won the finally match, winning 13 to 12. Good win. We are 3-0 so far.
