14.1 at Derby City Classic?

Guys -

I seldom, opps change that, very seldomly play 14.1. I use it as practice game only, usually only as a change from playing the ghost at home.

Lots of things I like about the game, and lots that I don't. But if you think about it, that's true with each game. To me using it as practice game, it allows you to calibrate where you are in your skill level, IMO, and that is with ball score.

Back to the topic at hand. I know they do a small event each year with trying to do high run competition. But if they actually had 14.1 as a competitive event, (1 player verses 1 player) do you think very many would compete? If you do, how many players do you think would play?

Understand that before I went to Derby City Classic for the first time, I had never seen a Bank tournament. I know several 14.1 players that wish there were more events to compete in. But like most things, people need to be exposed to it, before they would play it themselves.

Best of rolls to all,

Ken

I like this post, but 14.1 is a side show at Derby City and that's not likely to change. Here's why:

The main events are the Bank Pool, the One Pocket and the Nine Ball. The Bigfoot Ten Ball has become a main event, too, although it consists of just fifteen matches. These four events pretty much monopolize the limelight, which in the eyes of this fan, is just fine, as the quality of the show at Derby City is magnificent, almost unimprovable.

Consequently, on the periphery of the Derby City Classic are the following:

The Bank Pool ring game
The midnight minis
The 14.1 Challenge
The American Rotation event

Each of these are solid and credible events, but they all take a back seat to the four main events. On the bright side, the Bank Pool ring game and the final of the 14.1 challenge both make it onto the stream table.

The Derby City formula is fantastic, and while all of us 14.1 junkies would love to have a 14.1 event with a higher profile, it just isn't going to happen.

My thoughts exactly.

The main issue is TIME.

Ken, I can't tell from your post whether you are aware that the DCC 14.1 event does include some player-against-player matches. After several days of purely high-run efforts, the top 8 guys play a single-elimination tournament. The 8 who made it that far this year were Orcollo (1st), Stepanov (2nd), See, Lely, Feijen, Souquet, Appleton, and Shaw.

Nope, didn't know that.

I will make a point to watch it, as I haven't ever seen it played live with great players. Mostly just hacks like me.
