14.1 Break Shot

I have some miscellaneous instructional clutter. I'll post some of these here. If you can use them, fine. If not, that's fine too. I have a large volume of 14.1 material that has been laying around taking up file space for a very long time. If enough people are interested, I can post a few of these diagrams every day. It's not on the same level of Ray Martin's 99 Critical Shots, but contained in this series is the way Blackjack plays straight pool. Whether you agree with me or not, this is how I get the job done. With that being said, this is what the diagrams look like. Let me know if you'd like to see more.

Blackjack,
Thanks again. I've never seen this shot before!!!! I will give it a try tonight. I have been working hard on trying to learn the proper speed on my different break shots (to get the cue ball in a position that maximizes my chance of another shot) - and it rarely calls for a blast. Looking forward to some more 14.1 shots.

Hi ! Just wanted to add to BlackJack's article the reason why you should definitely apply a little bit right english on the diagram. If you play it without english, you might scratch in the bottom middle bag. Personally, I'd shoot it with a little bit top spin with right english to avoid getting stuck in front of the pack. Usually you don't have to shoot very hard if you hit the top of the pack, but always make sure that you won't get stuck there.

I think the one thing to worry about on this shot is missing the secondary contact point and hitting the lower head ball full, which might leave the cue ball stuck to the pack.

I'd love to see some straight pool instructionals. I'm trying to learn, playing in two different 14.1 leagues now. Ran 25 last night which for me in competition is pretty good. We were then shooting the breeze and one of the better players said that we were all shooting too hard. Even on breaks. I guess I should not blast them when I have the angle but should try to control the cue better.

Keep 'em coming BlackJack ! Your instructional stuff is always very highly informative and well written plus easily understood as well. Especially if you have "some material hanging around", send them here and let the people see the light ! :D

Thanks from Italy too, Blackjack! Your columns helped me alot and your site is between my favorites! I'm trying to run my first hundred, keep them coming pls!
