Comet Billiards to host NCS 14.1 Continuous National Championship

CueSports International announces Comet Billiards of Parsippany, New Jersey will be the host location of the NCS 14.1 Continuous National Championship July 31 ? August 2, 2009.

Comet Billiards is a choice location for this event as the ownership has long supported the art of straight pool (14.1) and is the home of the Accu-Stats Arena. Feature matches and the finals of the 3 day NCS 14.1 event will be streamed live by the Accu-Stats team led by Hall of Fame recipient Pat Fleming.

The field size at the event will be based on demand but not to exceed 64. In addition to cash and prizes the top two finishers of the national event at Comet will receive paid entry to the World 14.1 Championship August 25-30 at the Hilton in East Brunswick, New Jersey. To participate at the NCS 14.1 Continuous National Championship players must win a spot at qualifier tournaments scheduled around the country. The entry at each 14.1 qualifier will be $60 including green fees. The NCS is sponsored by OB Cues, and the DELTA-13 Rack.

Selftaut,

Do you know if there are also going to be regional qualifiers like last year, where approx 8 individual winners would gain entry into the World 14.1 in New Jersey?

In other words is this Comet tourney just in addition to the other non CSI qualifiers?

Thanks.

Bernie Pettipiece

Awesome news! Just out of curiosity, are the WC confirmed? I have heard absolutely nothing.

Thanks,
Steve

Ive left emails for Dragon Promotions and its difficult to get a response from them.

Are the rumors true by the way is comet going out of business?

Thats what i keep hearing.

Bernie, I think there will be qualifiers as before, thats up to Dragon but I have heard nothing to say there will not be. Yes this is seperate from those qualifiers.

Steve, can't say for sure , but I think Mark has been in contact with Dragon and those dates are what was told. I will have your answer 100% on that tommorow afternoon.

Charlie, I don't think so, but things are slow all over as we all know, rumors get started easy.

Selftaught,

Thank you for the call to arms. While the NCS is a program that we truly believe in as it encourages players to participate in multiple disciplines as well as offers the opportunity at a lower qualifier entry rate to play at the national level...I am particularly excited about the 14.1.

Personally I've started playing more straight pool since moving to Las Vegas and have fallen in love :) There is a nice little straight pool group that informally gather at Mickey's in Las Vegas Sunday mornings. Additionally, the owners of Pool Sharks are interested in starting a straight pool league, both owners, John and Joe have a love of the game.

Kevin Vidal from 14and1.com and Matt from the MN Straight Pool Association have been in touch and thank you thank you for helping support the sport and event.

We're working on setting up qualifiers now and should start publishing dates as early as the end of this week and next week for qualifiers around the country. We will have qualifiers through the middle of July. We are also concurrently scheduling the qualifiers for the NCS 9-Ball National Championship and the NCS 10-Ball National Championship.

A big thank you to Bill Haley of Comet Billiards, Pat Fleming and the Accu-Stats team, OB Cues and DELTA-13.

All the best!
Holly

It usually takes a while to get a response from Dragon Promotions from my experience. I think this will be a great event, especially considering the qualifier aspect.

Hi Holly, selftaut = Kevin :)

we are rallying the troops! its going to be a great event!

Hey guys I would love to host a qualifier in Long Island NY I currently am the operator for a small league of 16 players that I started about a month ago and we are going strong.

Charlie

Please contact me if anyone is interested in either hosting a 14.1 qualifier out of their room (if your an owner or manager) or if you have a close relationship with a room and would like to be involved to run a qualifier. My contact info is below.

Much appreciated,
Holly

Hey Guys I have officially spoken to Holly and she is great. I really admire her commitment to the game and we had a great conversation on the phone. I could have talked to her for hours more lol.

I am officially now trying to get my room going for a qualifier in Levittown NY. If there are any players out there who are interested let me know. The more players I can find the better I can present this to the room owners.

Hey Holly,

I think if you scheduled a qualifier in the Phoenix area there would be numerous players that would come out and try and qualify (especially since I run a straight pool league out of Kolbys and could spread the word  ).

My pick would be for Kolby's to host the 14.1 NCS qualifier. I would suggest contacting Jimmy Joe Langston for this. I'm sure he would be willing to step up and help.

Take care,
Ray Robles

Hi Ray, Great to hear from you. I left Jimmy a message yesterday. He can be hard to hunt down. Also prayers out to Scott. I heard last night.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot (happens all the time) can I just show up and play in a qualifier pay my fee (and go two and out), or do I have to be part of the league system? I live about 20-25 mins away from Comet, and am avid 14.1 player and would like some to play some competitive 14.1.

Thanks folks,

Justin.

Hi Justin,

All NCS events are open to all US players, men, women, amateur and professional. There is no requirement to be a member of any league or association. The NCS is set up with the qualifier system in order to offer the most amount of players the opportunity to potentially play in the NCS national championship events by paying a lower qualifier entry fee.

So...to answer your question :) play in a qualifier and if you win a spot, your off to the national level.

We are in the beginning phases of setting up the qualifiers for 14.1, 9 and 10 ball. We will be updating the CSI website on the NCS calendar as we add qualifier dates and locations. Please always free to ask any questions and not to sound like a second grade teacher, I do not believe any questions are dumb.

Best Regards,
Holly

Hi Holly. Long time!

So if I understand correctly, the only way in is through a qualifier? There are no automatic invites?

Thanks!

Hi Steve,

How are you doing? Yes, I've been out west now for 3 years. I miss NYC but not the cost of living I have to admit.

Nope, no invites to any NCS national events. I've been asked about invites or buy in's but feel it negates the whole qualifier purpose and system.

Setting up the qualifiers is just getting started and I anticipate the bulk of the 14.1 qualifiers to take place in the NE with a spattering spread across the country. Thus far I'm in talks setting up already NINE 14.1 qualifiers at host rooms. This in just the past 24 hours and largely due to the support of the 14.1 community.

By the way, I've started playing 14.1 some since I moved to Las Vegas and have come to love the game highly. My high run is...embarassing.

:) Holly

Holly,

Do all entrants have to be an American citizen or does permanent resident also qualify?

Thanks.

Bernie.
