According to AZ's calendar the tournament should already be underway. Does anyone know the line up? Is Hohmann among the participants? If anyone here has gone or is thinking of going, I'd really appreciate some updates! Thanks.

I was going to ask that, I was even thinking of hanging around trying to play in it but didn't bother in the end. Hope AZ covers this event though!

PS
Thanks for the game of chess at the World Summit mate, I'm lucky we didn't have a clock! ;-)

The One! Sorry I didn't come around to wish you good luck in Cheasapeake. I got sidetracked by all the end-of-tournament booze, if you know what I mean.

I got the chess game down in notation the next day. I could PM it to you or publicly publish it here on AZ at your own risk! :D Nah, actually, guys, I must say The One surprised me on the chess board... He plays pretty good for a poolplayer.

Let's see if we can get word from the Straight Pool tournament though. Thanks guys.

I went over to the Tournament Section and couldn't find this straight-pool event. What are the dates again, and where is it being held?

Jose Parica said this past week at the U.S. Open that he was going to be competing in a straight-pool tournament in New Jersey. I'll bet this is the one. Allen Hopkins lives in New Jersey and played in this tournament last year. However, this weekend, October 1-2, is the Patriots Cup in Florida, and I believe Allen Hopkins is on the North Team.

I'd like to hear some updates, too! Is it taking place at Comet Billiards in Parsippany, NJ?

JAM

Although I don't know about whether the tournament will still be held, Jack Colavita (the tournament director) just passed away last week, so that might have an effect.

The NJ State 14.1 Straight Pool Championship is going forward as planned, began this morning at 11:00AM and runs thru Sunday at Comet Billiards in Parsippany, NJ.
It is unfortunate that the person most responsible for resurrecting this tournament four years ago did in fact pass away last Tuesday, New Jersey's own Jack "Gentleman Jack" Colavita.
I also heard that Jose Parica was planning on attending and Allen Hopkins has attended the previous years so I would think if available he would be there this year.
I'm planning on being there later today and tomorrow and if time allows I will post back here with whatever results are available.

Thanks a whole bunch, Railbird. We'll be anxiously waiting the news. I might drop by there this weekend myself.

Thats great please post some pictures if you can at some point.

Thank you so much, Railbird. Thinkin' of dropping by later today. Don't tell me Hohmann is not playing!? I wanted to go specifically to see that particular 400-ball runner play. I'd also like to see some of Schmidt... Oh, well, hopefully this World Straight Pool Championship will give us more opportunities to see these great players at this great game.

Thanks again and keep us posted if you learn more. It'll be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the update Jim. I couldn't make it today but got home to see if there was any news. It sounds like Parica is playing good, as well as Santos and Ginky. Who has the high run so far? Do they plan to change the name of the event to Jack Calovito Memorial?

The Finals is at 6:00 p.m., EST, tonight. I wonder who won!

Updates, please! :p

I just left and I missed one of the better matches of Lipsky and Barouty to advance to the semi's. Ginky was playing Steve Lillis when I left and Santos was playing Tom Walter? I think. I did see a little of the Parica / Hopkins match and it looked good. I saw Allen repeatedly look at his cue and what looked like him checking the weight/balance as he played. So I don't know if it was a new cue and he was getting used to it or what. But you know how when us amatuers miss and we blame it on the cue, kind of like that. :D

He's currently in Tampa participating in The Patriot Cup, where the North is currently kicking the South's a$$. I was told the score but unfortunately I don't recall it at this time. (Im not even a 1/4 of the reporter that JAM is) I just remember that at this point in time it's not even close! Unless the south rises to the occasion tomorrow, it's going to be a landslide.

That's interesting since the South has a slightly stronger team. I forgot all about that... That's how come Tony and Hohmann aren't playing in Jersey.

Question: How insane are they not to have my man JJ play for the South???

Jam: I think the final is tomorrow. I might attend.

You missed a great match between Barouty and Lipsky. Looked like Lipsky might take the victory early on but he missed a couple opportunuties and Barouty kicked him to the one loss side. He had to play the gentleman from Korea (don't remember his name) but it was too late to stick around for that match.

Anyway, a couple other updates

Hopkins lost to Parica although in the end it was a close match.

Ginky won against Parica knocking him out and also scoring the high run of the tournament so far at 130 something.

Santos is out after a hard fought match against Tom Walter. Tom dominated the match early on but missed a ball and failed to runout with 136. Santos stepped up and ran about 70 balls to even out the score with both of them in the 130's but got himself into trouble and Tom finally finished him off.

Young Hwa Jeong won over Tom Walter in a mail biter. Tom ground his way back to make the score 141 to 143 but got stuck to the rack on his break shot. Tom fought to the end but came up just a little short so he is out.

Young Hwa Jeong was playing Lipsky when I left so I don't know who won that match but I would have to bet on Lipsky to take that match.

That all I can remember for now. Saw some great matches and looking forward to the final day tomorrow.

Thanks a lot, climtrad. It looks like Ginky is regaining his gear. Two centuries already! Whoa!
