14.1 preparation drills

I'll look into the 14.1 drills and pattern info. I think a lot of the problems I post about would go away if I just play the game more. For someone who claims 14.1 is his favorite game, I play very little of it... less than I do of any other game in fact. Is that weird or what?

14.1

I only play 14.1 and one-pocket these days. I should say I 'practice' only these two games, I don't 'play' against anyone much these days. There are NO 14.1 players in the deep south (never have been), however, there are plenty of one-pocket players (very good ones!) In fact, I see Marshall Carpenter (Tuscaloosa Squirrel) most days of the week at my local pool hall, still shooting a great game.

If I lived up north, especially NY, I'd probably only shoot 14.1 by choice. Throughout my time in college in the 80's the preferred game was 9-ball and I got sick of it for a lifetime. I'll play 10-ball now, but I despise 9-ball.

I went a good month of playing horrible 14.1 about 3 weeks ago. The drill I did to break out of the slump was throw all 15 balls randomly into the racking end of the table. I then tried to pick the right pattern to run all of them.

I think this worked because it took the pressure off of playing. There was no reason to count where I was at in the run because I had always started at 15. This let me relax while playing and get a lot more loose for my shots.

Good video

Reference the post I made a few days ago, here is a video of one of the drills - 3 rows of 3 balls. You start with ball in hand and try to get on a break ball, and then into the next rack.

14.1 End Pattern Drill

I may do a few more of these and walk through different patterns - as well as finding those patterns early.

Good video. I enjoyed watching it but I wish it was longer. Hey, you do not look anything like that photo under your login name..........
You look more like one of my friends from the 70's.

LOL... that's Bruiser Brody in my avatar.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I have some more 14.1 videos at youtube, veoh, and google. Some are evaluations of players, some are from Derby City. If you need the links let me know.
