10 games of 9 ball tonight I made 14 balls on the break combined.

Once I made 3, 3 times I made 2, 5 times I made zero, 1 time I struck out and scratched once.

I meant to keep track of how many times I left the ball at mid table but forgot. I, going to guess 4 or 5.

I was playing on a 7 ft Kasson Orion table at home using a $50 19 oz sneaky pete with a Picone White Diamond tip to break.

I've been at the game less than a year. What's everyone's honest opinion?

Now ya got yourself a measuring stick and can set a reasonable goal. I wish you had made 1 on the snap.

How many balls you make doesn't matter per-say. Its what can you do after the break. Although comming up dry and that one scratch will hinder your chances of winning.

The balls are falling into a pattern when they are racked. Brush down the rack area and make sure the balls are all frozen.

Go break on a 9-fter. Breaking on a 7-footer is so easy. I was playing a guy last night on a 7-ftr and 99% of the breaks at least a ball or two went down. 3 was definitely not uncommon.

More important question: where is your cue ball after the break? Does it stay within a foot of the middle of the table? Are you drawing it back too much? Are you following it into the rack?

I got rid of my break stick a week ago, too much deflection. Been using a house cue and almost every break I 'm dropping at least one ball with a good controlled cue ball. I would love to know what good break stick to buy that plays as solid as a house cue. Any advice would be well appreciated.

Maybe get the house cue jointed and just make it your break cue. Sounds like it is doing the job.

where did the cue ball end up those 14 times???

no offense, but i can think of about 200 other things you should be practicing other than the break if you have only been playing a year.

if you break good, but you can't run out, or play a good safe.........then what does it matter??????

yeah, there is a huge difference from 7ft to 9ft... but if your practicing it always helps... just know that when you move up to a 9 not everything is going to work as well for you as it did on the 7-fter.. i learned that the hard way

I must admit this was one of the first things to come to my mind too (God I hope Im not starting to think like VAP :D )

But after thinking about his post I think this is good practice, as long as he is working on other things as well. Everyone wants/needs to learn to break well and as long as break practice doesnt take away from other areas that need attention I think its a good habit to get into. Breaking ten racks shouldnt take up too much practice time.

Of course to really get the most break practice in the shortest amount of time he may want to look into a breakrak :p

He said he played ten games, maybe he ran out every rack?

Playing at home is playing with yourself ;) .

The things I have done playing at home and by myself...banking end rail balls 1-rail into the side- 8+ foot caroms, billiards shots to make the 9 from nowhere. But nobody cares or witnesses or pays, practically worthless.

Thats funny, I find the time I spend working on my game by myself priceless. True, no one cares or pays for what I do at home. But when I get out and play in the real world the time spent at home pays off.
