...Regional tourney. showed up at 8:30 am, first match at noon. 2nd match not till 6:30!!! By the time I made it to the Finals, at 11:15pm, I ran outta gas and lost.

Any pointers for me on how to make it through the slog? My arm was like jelly, and my drawstroke failed me.

Some would say diet and exercise..and some would say cocaine. But that doesn't mean you can't do all three. Nice job getting to the finals.

Exactly why I very seldom do touneys

Well they only go one of two ways.
Your experience, and the opposite.
State tourney in January had us playing two days straight, nearly non-stop with no time for meals or rest. Finished at 3am too.
In your case, I try to find an open table once an hour and hit for maybe ten minutes to keep everything loose.

Can you set a timer and bring a pillow to get some rest in the car?
Are times for next matches posted?

Don't stand when you can sit. Don't sit on a stool without a back when you can sit on one with a back. If you can sit in a comfortable chair, that is much better. If you have someone you can trust to call you inside, chilling in your vehicle has already been recommended. Most of us waste far too much energy standing around talking!

Your attitude when the other person is shooting makes a world of difference too. With some deliberate effort I got to the point I could watch the other person shooting in my match as a mildly interested observer. That burns very little energy and your nerves are calm. I played an old man that slayed me for several months. He was a decent player as far as skill level but what destroyed my game was that he was ancient and naturally slow. He could run an eight
ball table and make it fifteen minutes of torture without trying. Being young and greener than grass I would be sitting on the edge of my seat and when he missed I would jump up and either miss my shot or pick a poor pattern to try to get out. Once I learned to chill in the chair he never beat me again and indeed avoided playing me as much as possible.

While rest and diet are both important the major key to dealing with long days for any reason is in that space between your ears. If you learn to sit at "idle" when you aren't shooting it is a lot better than sitting there "racing the engine" the whole time you aren't shooting. With enough practice you can gain some rest while sitting in the chair watching the other player shoot. Staying fresher longer and watching the shots the other player likes or doesn't like is far better than sitting on the edge of your chair thinking about the damage you are going to do when you finally get out of the chair.

A fifteen hour day is grueling at best. However, it is far easier to deal with if your mind and body are at rest 70-85% of the time instead of staying in competition mode for hours at a time.

84 entrants is a pretty good size field but, still, 6 hours between your 1st and 2nd match must mean there weren't very many tables.

How many were there?

Congrats on making it to the final, Rich.

Only used 10 tables; I got lucky with 2 byes...so the wait was to allow the field to catch up. TWO BYES!!! How lucky was that???!!!

Thats why I can’t do big tournaments any more.. I Can’t stand wasting my day sitting around waiting to play.

That's ugly, takes a almost a quarter of the day just to get through first round matches with so few tables for 80 players. They should have put a limit on entries if they knew they would have so few tables.
