Hello cue makers of AZBilliards. A friend of mine gave these spools to me for helping him out the other day.

I know this line can and has been used before but I was hoping for any input from someone with firsthand experience.

Once installed is their a noticeable difference in how it "feels" and does it press/sand down easily?

Debating if I want to try this on a cue that I will actually play with or just one of my vintage cues I keep for nostalgia.

Any input is appreciated. Thank you.

I'm not a cue maker, but I think the old Cortland #9 Irish linen was 9, 3-lb strands, woven together to make 27 lb line.

I don't know if I've ever seen a cue wrapped with what you have, but I'm sure it could be done. Maybe the wrap groove would have to be a bit deeper on the cue.

I think you are right. Except, I think I have seen old cues wrapped with a lot of various different linens. Antiques. Off brands.

Not unlikely it might need a slightly different wrap channel, depends on how it presses I guess.


But that spec pattern looks cool. As long as it presses and polishes nice, it may make a very nice wrap.

I have some plain non-spec Cuttyhunk that is cable wound, 27 pound, 9 strand. I got it to re-wrap an antique Brunswick I have that looks like somebody did in a more modern Blue Mountain. It's a Green linen, I think with white spec if I remember correctly. Really nice linen but looks awful on an antique.


There are some nice old options outside the traditional Cortland 27 pound I think. It is certainly legendary though.

If I had this stuff, I'd definitely use it on an old cue. I actually think that it would feel nice because it would be a bit thicker and more absorbent.

The white and green speck has always been my favorite color, too.
 
Interesting look. Might be a bit larger diameter than typical linen for cues, but you can sand linen down to the diameter that fits the wrap groove, in most cases. There are always exceptions. Please let us know if you put this on a cue.

It will definitely work. Let me know if you want to sell it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who will ask...
 
Update. Decided to try a spool of this on an old Runde Schon and I absolutely love it. Great substitute to help conserve my #9 stock.
