16 Top Pros Battle for $20,000 FIrst Prize!

It is not impossible for sure but I would be surprised if they were actually playing for the full amount.
With such a huge gap between first and second it simply makes sense to make a saver in the $5k range.

Why would Corey make a 5k saver when he has to get beat 2 sets to 1 that makes no sense to me if i was Corey no way would i even think about a saver unless i lost the 1st set.

And Dennis lost twice to John Morra! Both sets were close. Corey winning was kind of a surprise to me, but he did just win the big tourney in Oregon last month as well, with a large and strong field.

I don't think anything he does on a barbox is a surprise. There has been 3 2K entry tourneys at Smokin Aces with all of these champs & he is the only one to finish in top 4 & cash in all of them. Bergman is the only other to even cash twice.

Good point, I didn't think about that. Still, a saver is far from impossible, it doesn't have to be even (as in,
if Corey wins he gives Morra 2.5k and if Morra wins he gives Corey 5k). However with the true double
elim format it is more likely there was no saver before the first set.

Why does everyone always assume that the final 2 players in a tournament are always making a deal to split up the winnings? Why would Corey even consider it, he's played for a lot more money than what was paid out in this tournament, and he's certainly won his fair share of major tournaments in the past, or should we just all assume that he made deals with all of his opponents in the past to let him win, so they can choose up the money later:frown:

Do you think there were savers being made in the clubhouse or on the links at the Master's. I really doubt it.. Savers suck, I know there is no big money in pool and things like savers and dumping is a big reason there is no money in pool. This is a beautiful game and it is in bad repair due to past bad actions.

Corey didn't chop, it's hard to be scared when you need to get double-dipped. He played great.

Pretty please with sugar on top, do not lump a saver and a dump in the same category. There is
nothing wrong with a saver and there is everything wrong with a dump. Savers (or as they are called
there, chops) are very common in poker. Everyone understands their merits. Prize money is
sometimes very topheavy and that simply makes no sense. Making a saver to reduce the topheavyness does.

But, the double dipping part makes it understandable that Corey would not want to make a saver.

I am not everyone, I am Dave. Dave has put a couple pool players in high buy-in pool tournaments as a backer and
on every single occasion there were multiple savers. So, I am not assuming, I know it happens quite a bit. You?
Again, pretty please with sugar on top. A SAVER IS NOT A DUMP!

So then, in your opinion, who is more in favor of a "saver" the backer or the one who's actually playing?

Generally speaking, the player. Savers are made to reduce finacial risk or swings as you
might call them. A backer is supposed to be financially secure and hoping to make a big score
off a relatively small investment. Players generally want to have the largest possible guaranteed payday.

Some backers will for this reason not agree to savers, but I personally don't mind them as long
as I know of the arrangement before the match starts, it reduces my swings aswell and that is nice too.

As an example the US open, $30.000 for first and $15.000 for second, one relatively short race for $15k
or make a saver for $5k and be assured 20k with a chance at 25k, I know which one I would choose,
might be different for some.

Robb has cashed multiple times also.

I just can't emphasize how great that tournament was. When a player gets up 5 or 6 six games I would think they were pulling away and then the other player would step up and put 4 or 5 racks together. I actually learned some things from watching them play
Great job Ray and thanks for the fantastic matches

Love to do one there! Hopefully Frank will get in the ring soon.

We all have our own opinions and I won't fault you for yours, but to me, it's not really that special when it's so easy for them to do.

Believe me, I love winner breaks and I love seeing packages put together. I would just personally prefer it to be challenging.

To each their own.

I know 16 guys who would like to invite you a not so challenging challenge. :D
