1963 Ginacues sold on ebay (within hours)

Just curious to see what the masses think that cue on ebay was worth. Auction started last night (late) and had a buy it now at $2700 (sold this morning). Was one of only 15 cues to have the logo in script on the cue back in 1963. Ebayer seller claimed he bought it from Ernie and it came with a COA. I saw the auction before it was bought, and had no idea the street value of that cue. Any ideas on its worth? kicking myself in the as** if I missed the deal of the century. Looked it up in the bluebook (online subsription) and it did not seem like a $5k cue.

.02 cents

Not my cup of tea ... Volvos are a good investment too,
but I wouldn't have one.

If I am going to buy a $4,000 hooker, she better have talent
and look the part too. I got a '86 Schon that you could save
a $1,000 and would put that one to shame in the looks department.

Hey barbourdg that is my ginacue and if I wanted it posted on AZ I would have put it here.

cueaddicts: the value of the cue is what someone is willing to pay, in this case I believe it was a fair deal for both

snapshot9: you know what they say about opinions.....personally I would not give you .02 for your schon

icon/Jeff: I agree with you 100%

Waldos old Gina

I would like to see the pictures of the cue we have a old Ginacue that was purchased from Ernie in the 60's it has a brass joint. We have had this cue for over 40 years. here is a link to the Ginacue I will have to take some better pictures next week.

Yep, you certainly don't have to tell me that....I've been preaching that for years trying to get folks to believe me. You are correct, it seems like a very fair deal for both seller and buyer. Wish I'd have seen it myself for that money. :(

Amazing how that willing buyer - willing seller thing seems to work out.

Yep, and it sold that quickly. I've been there, done that....second guessed myself that I sold something too cheap. Oh well, you live and learn. :)

The buyer had been looking for a cue like this and happened to be on the computer at the right time. We spoke on the phone after the "buy it now" and he thought that he might have paid too much for the cue even though he was happy because he relly wanted the cue. I told him that I did not think he paid too much and he agreed. Timing is everything and a fair price helps. I have another older ginacue (1968) if interested. No prongs but a fancy butt. This cue also has a letter from Ernie.

Mine had the brass joint also and the butt was very similar to yours. I pulled the pictures because someone posted it here without asking. If you would like to see pictures of the cue let me know.

Not to be disrespectful, but what was the big deal with posting a picture? People post photos and links all the time from ebay, without asking permission (or whatever).

I posted the info, because I was probably one of the first to see the ad last night and have been looking at buying a Barry or Gus stick all week. I gave your stick alot of consideration, but did not know enough about it and was curious enough to post the question today on what an older Gina is worth?

I do know something about the black your selling, so I hope we are COOL!! incase I am interested :p

I must agree 100% with Dave. When I list something on Ebay, (and I do frequently) don't even consider putting a link to it here. If I wanted to post it here, I would do it myself.

RE: pictures on the web, they are NOT considered part of the public domain, contrary to popular opinion. Pics should NEVER be reposted without the picture owners permission. The fact that "People post photos and links all the time from ebay" does not make it right, or legal.

May I suggest that you read up on the following before you start yanking, copying and re-posting other peoples pics:
Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. Section 512 (c)

Geez Louise! I make my living as a Graphic Designer, so I know very well about the copyright laws.

Posting links to ebay auctions, is not against the law. Downloading a photo from the owner and posting it elsewhere (without his permission) is against the law.

So my answer to you, is that I never took, copied or pasted anything from this guy. I posted the webaddress to where he himself, published those photos. That is the public domain, its basically a web page for all to see.

So now he saw this thread, did not want people talking about his cue on AZ (WHICH I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH) and chose to remove the photo from his server, which is why there is now a broken link at the top of this thread. He never lost control of his photos.

If anything talking about ebay auctions on AZ, in my opinion, helps bring focus to the ebay ads and makes more money for those selling. And as I said to response to him, I meant no disrespect.

hey barbourdg, I accept your response for no disrespect, however forget about me selling you a Gus or Barry! Yes I posted the pics on ebay and you posted the web address but you also posted the picture on AZ.

I've also heard this and highly doubt it, I've seen at least 10 and that's just crazy odds if the 15 is true.

This is why the statement is a sales farce. In 1963 there were only 15 made with the script. Maybe there were five hundred made after that.

Chris

so are you saying ernie gutierrez is lying? in the letter he states "there are only 15 cues with the ginacue engraved in script. maybe you and jimbo know more than the guy that made the cue!

I think it was the "Happy Butt" part of the ad that threw me. Maybe he only made 15 Happy Butts with the script logo.

In 1963...

I'd never call him a liar, I was just saying I found it odd that I had seen so many of the 15. I mean the cues are 40years old, in that time you'd expect some to be lost, destroyed, or just out of circulation (they weren't thought of as collectable back then). And just for the record I think the link to Chalkers that is listed above with the 3 cues aren't the script we were talking about, maybe I misunderstood. Those are the block letters, I was talking about the script who's talking about the wrong ones (could be me).?
