Well we are part way thru our first day with no smoking and it has been business as usual, all 8 tables are running, no problems yet, they just walk outside to smoke.
I did lose one guy who left with his case, but I think he will be back.

Sure hope it stays this way. My fingers and toes are crossed.

That's enough to make me drive from VA. Good move sir. You may live longer as a result!

Thats great news Mickey, and I think you will be suprised that it won't affect your business at all. In fact a lot of the smokers will even think its better after a while because it helps them cut down. Also if you advertise you are a non smoking room you may well see an increase in new customers.

Best to you
Kev

Congrats

Kudos to you! If others would take your lead maybe there might be a resurection of pool. Non smoking is the only way to go, I love pool but I refuse to play in a smoke filled room. Gov. has to step in and stop it nation wide, there's not many owners like you.

Thanks

Thanks for the thoughts,
Just talked to a fellow room owner from drexel hill pa. and he is going non-smoking on Mar 31 st. And I know a couple others want to.

Got some spray stuff called Vamoose and its getting the smoke oder out.

We went non-smoking when they passed the law in FL in 2001 or 03. We lost some people and gained some new ones it has worked out for the best. We sure don't miss it. Good luck to you with it.

Congrats on making a hard decision.

As for me...

5 groups of people left my room Saturday night because of too much smoke. This is with the doors open, a ventilation fan, and 4 smokeeaters. Still had 15 tables going most the night which made up for it.

Good luck. Keep us all updated.

we've been non-smoking for a long while now and I wouldnt play anywhere that had smoking.

Not

This is not the answer! We have way too much intrusion into our lives now because........."we are too stupid & weak to do it on our own", according to many politicians.

Kudos to Mickey! I think it's a great move. I will definetely stop in.

Ray

ps. now........where are you located?

Hello Bigtruck,
Thanks for the Kudos,
Im in Thorndale Pa. about 45 min west of Philly off Rt 30.
Coffee is on me.

3.5 weeks now and the 2 or 3 guys that left because of the change are back now, so all seems ok.

I wish there was a non smoking pool hall around my area but none of them are.

One pool hall opened that way and they had to change to smoking to stay open. I think if an established pool hall goes from smoking to non it will work out better for them!

GOOD LUCK! :)

It depends

See, this is the way it should be! You have taken a courageous risk with your business. I lost my pool room because 60% of my customers smoked. When the city hit me with a ban, they just went to the pool room in the next town. But, the way you describe it, I think you will be ok. You might see a little dip, but they will be back. It is all about choice and letting the marketplace determine the outcome. You know your business and you know what your customers want. That is far better than the government shoving it down you throat! If you don't want to go into a pool room with smoking DON'T GO IN! But you as a business owner want to provide what your customer would prefer then you have made a good decision. Good luck!

Thank you,
I actually did this for my own health issues, Plus after many complaints from my customers I made the change.

Knowing that it was a health issue for me made it easier for them.
And if I lose the business so be it I have a strong desire to live a while longer.

we went smoke free in RI about 3 or 4 years ago. The problem for us is that we are the states ONLY alcohol free poolhall which was great when you could smoke becuase the kids would basically PAY you to hide out from their parents but since then as we are SO happy to be breathing better we now have to stare at the "Space for Lease" sign out front ...it is our space for lease. sales are down 50 percent from last year which were down 50 percent from the year before. Good Luck...Don't get rid of booze. Maybe its just the region but here in the NorthEast there is a lot of pool interest and we are dying. I'm so glad it is working for you. My boss seems to think the demise is also attributed to the poker boom as well and kids (the majority of our client base as previously mentioned) wanting to be thugs and gangsters. I agree. It makes me ill to see PANTS worn and THIGHS and not WAISTS!!! Thanks for the vent

Good Luck, I hope it turns around for you.
We never had alcohol and are not allowed anyway.
I figure if I go down, the hell with it I tried.

Drexeline is smokefree on April 1st!
Cleanup and maintenance will be less!
You will still be allowed to smoke outside!

Greet you customers, learn their first names, thank them for coming to your room to play, and you have done more than 80% of the room owners in my area.

Congratulations. I hope this keeps up for you. I will gladly stop in to offer my patronage when I am in the area.
