I have the 1st edition of the billiard encyclopedia, standard and in good condition.

I have been searching and mailing a lot, but could not find out the approximately value of this book. It seems to be very rare.

Maybe someone out there can help me?

I am from germany, so please excuse my english and thanks for any help!

:)

Thanks Sore_Aintya!
Nice Dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks bobroberts!

Why can the second edition (f.e. on amazon) be offered from 350,- up to over 1.000,- bucks? What makes this difference?

:)

I don't know the true value of the book or what you're looking at to get those prices, but know that they also made a couple of collectors editions: one covered in Simonis in a nice gift box that was given to those cuemakers & others that really helped them gather info & a nice leather bound book. I would guess that either of these would command much more than the standard editions (1st or 2nd) because of the construction and the limited number made.

Hope this helps. Dave

Thank you Dave!

Actually there are 6 pieces of the second edition are offered on www.amazon.com

Prices are:
$275 and $350 and $688 and $777 and $1.256 and $1.944

Just take a look at the descriptions and tell me your opinion.
At least 5 of them seems to be standard second editions as far as I can see...

Another thing is: Why there is not only 1 first edition on sale out there?
OK, it's a very good book and collectible, but mostly people sell all and everything...

if that 's the case then my 1st edition signed by the authors victor stein and paul rubino is worth a mint.

@skins:

maybe not yet, but sure it will be worth a lot,
becouse of the small number of prints...

They go for about $100 used. The second editions go for $50 - $75 used.

I don't know where those people got their prices from on Amazon - look on E-Bay for a more realistic value. This type of unrealistic overpricing happens all the time with stuff viewed as collectible.

Thanks chris!

I've just searched for billiard encyclopedia on www.ebay.com
There is not one piece (wether 1st or 2nd edition) on sale.
They only sell another book called: New Illustrated Encyclopedia of Billiards - Mike Shamos for around $10,-

 :) :)

Oops, sorry, I got confused - I was thinking about the Blue Book, not the Billiards Encyclopedia.

The Billiards Encyclopedia - the prices on Amazon are high but probably not totally out of line. Used, they should go for around $200 realistic. I paid $140 or so new a few years ago directly from Victor Stein, signed second edition. I think he still pops up and sells them once in a while.

Here's one on E-Bay that went for $103 in an auction, which is cheap. I don't know if there is much difference in value between 1st and 2nd edition.

I have been watching the prices for about a year now on both e-bay and the book sellers sites.
While Amazon and Barnes & Nobles does list them rather high (most recently $250 and up), you can find them on e-bay ever so often at $75 to about $150 for the unsigned copies.
I purchased my 2nd edition during the summer last year used (but in new condition) for $110 shipped on e-bay.

Hope this helps,
Myron
