1st time that ever happened

Feel your pain lorider, I've seen it happen a couple of times. Sometimes I think it's the worst thing you can do,
to tell someone they need like 2-3 balls when they're breaking. I had the reverse happen last week sort of.
I was told I needed all 10 so I just went for a very controlled break and either he slugged me or I took 50% off.
The balls barely opened. But then the 1 got a miracle slow rolling kiss into the side and the 2-3 were hanging.

Anyway, I do hate the lack of push out and feel it often punishes the breaker and adds some randomness.
I get why they do it but a LOT of games (and maybe entire matches) are decided by random break outcomes.
Especially given that it's opponent rack and making a ball is a little more of a coin flip.

I think the APA might benefit from a pushout rule in which only the incoming player on a dry break may push. Its rough to be punished by the other guy hooking you on the break, clearly by accident. But if you did it yourself...sorry...break better.

Yes, this format emphasizes cue ball control on the break. You need to know how to play position on the 1 ball. Remember that the majority of the APA is like 4 handicap players. The no push out rule protects that majority. A and Open level players playing as 9's would have way too much advantage with the push out. The handicap system wouldn't work for this. I looked at the whole situation differently. For me, APA 9 ball way one of the biggest benefits to my break and cue ball control. Scratching is the kiss of death in this format when I have to play someone 75-25 for example.

Also, I don't particularly see any benefit of the USAPL format in having to run out the last rack. Bottom line is the match comes down to the game ball. Does it matter much if its the 9? Look at straight pool. If the race is to 150 and its 145-145, when one guy runs 5 balls he doesn't have to continue to run the rest to win. APA 9 ball is NOT tournament 9 ball. It is a different game. If you are wanting it to be something else, disappointment is sure to follow. I like the format a lot actually. Play it for what it is, not what it isn't.

I don't remember details but I think I was a 7 in 9 ball, and they always played a 2 against me.

Talk about a scratch or foul killing a guy....damn.

I couldn't fade it.

Maybe so, Im just always disappointed when its another league thread. Id much rather read about a money match or an unknown road man taking down the rail etc

sorry to disapoint you charlie. i am not much of a gambler now a days but i do have a syory from a few months ago....aw hell i will give you 2 since you seemed so disapointed .

i was out bar hopping with a friend and we stopped at one bar and i decided to shoot a lil pool. there was only 1 set of quarters on the rail when i put mine and the guy shooting said we playing for 20.00 a game , i said no problem. well he wins that 1 and the next one who's quarters were up before mine.

i had ordered a beer and asked a guy who was sitting next to the pool table if i could set my beer there while i was shooting. he said yea and also said the guy i was playing was pretty good as he had kept the table for about 6 games in a row.

i said is that a fact? he said yea. i said well i am playing him for 20.00 do you want to bet 20.00 that i lose ? he looked at the table and said he already made 3 balls and you want me to bet you ? i said yea. well the guy makes the 4th ball and the bystander said yea i will take your bet.

my opponent misses his 6th ball and i go up and run the table. my opponent unscrewed his cue and left after paying me. the bystander also paid me and said i cant believe you wanted to bet when he already pocketed half his balls. i said it was simply a matter of looking at the table and knew he could not run out and if i could not run out i was not leaving him shit.he said man you run him off in a hurry. i said it was not my intention to do that but i just wanted both of ya'lls money.

2nd story. different bar.

this bar has 8 tables and they all are occupied by couples except 1 that has 4 guys taking turns. well i did not want to bother guys out with their girls so i put up on the one with 4 guys. while i am waiting my turn i see the youngest of the 4 beat all 3 of the other guys. well i lose also and all 4 of them start acting like he just won the us open. 1 of them pipes up as i was hanging my cue on the wall that this kid could beat any one in the bar.

now normally i let stuff like that fly over my head but this time it kinda irked me. i turned around and said ... you really think so ? well i got 20.00 that says he cant do it again.all 4 of them get in a pow wow talking about it and the kid says yea lets do it. i tell the other 3 that since you all had a pow wow about it with him i bet each and every one of you 20.00 that i win this one.

they had another pow wow and then said ok. he breaks dry and i run 7 balls. he makes 2 balls and i pocket the 8. they start with that hustler crap and i say no... i just play more serious with money on the line. i said i knew the kid would choke and fold under pressure and he proved me right.

there you go charlie ...not one but 2 gambling stories.
