Hello Kevin, just trying to do what I can to support this great game of ours.

For anybody that is interested please GET THERE EARLY there are only 32 spots available and there seems to be quite a few people interested. Any questions, let me know.

Roger,

Any guesstimate how late in the day/night the tournament may run? The single elimination format surely will help the time, but it also depends somewhat on how many tables in the tournament room are allotted for the event. With 32 players and all 12 tables, not everyone will be able to start their first matches (16) at the same time. I've been to the Sunday 9-ball events and they can go til past 11 at night. Ouch.

If they use enough tables to get all the first round going at the same time, using a few in the regular room, it would certainly cut down the time.

Sounds like a great event and I would come up with probably a couple of guys in addition to myself, but it would be tough to do on a regular basis if it goes late into the night.

If you use 12 tables as you suggest, and a 2 hour match time to schedule, which you should do because of time outs and somewhere in there a lunch or dinner break, then its fairly easy to figure. The finals would be at around 10pm with a 32 field.

Using 16 tables and a 2 hour match time the finals would be at 8pm.

I spoke with the owner about all of the details before we posted the tournament and I asked that, for the 1st round, given if I can get a 32 player field, if I can use 16 tables and he agreed. So, everybody will be playing first round which will start at 12noon. I'm hoping for a finished tournament by 9pm but there are many factors involved and one of those is the skill level being played. Also, I've had a double elimination event brought down to the final 12 with a 45 player field by 8pm 1st day and that was with various skill levels. Some players had no Straight Pool experience. I feel very confident in getting this done in a timely fashion.

All I suggest to everybody is GET THERE EARLY! We would like to get things rolling by 12. It's a first come, first serve basis - NO PHONE INS AND NO SPECIAL TREATMENT. We need to get the tournament going. I've spoken with a lot of people and it looks like there is quite a bit of interest in the tournament. I've also sent an email blast to people on my email distribution list so there are plenty of people that are aware of the event. I HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE. Remember...this is a monthly tournament it will be every 3rd Saturday of the month @ Hard Times Billiards - Bellflower, CA. If you have any questions or would like to get on my email list...just let me know. By the way, Kevin, thanks for answering some of the questions out there, I do appreciate it.

Thank you for your interest,

That's good news.

So the first event is 1/17, a week from this Saturday, correct?
Yes that's correct. I hope to see you there...please pass the word.

Thanks again,

Roger,

Please report on yesterday's event. Had to work so I couldn't make it but I do want to hear all about it.

How many entries did you get and what time did it end?

How was the payout structured?

Tournament Results

Here are the results of the 1st Monthly 3rd Saturday Straight Pool Tournament hosted by Hard Times Billiards Bellflower, CA.

We had a pretty strong field of 20 players compete in the tournament and, although it wasn't a full field, it sure didn't lack talent and skill. Everybody seem to have a great time and I'm very confident that this tournament is going to grow. I hope that all those that missed out yesterday will be able to come out and compete next month. Here are the results:

1st place- Nick Spano $350.
2nd place- Frank "The Barber" Almanza $170.
3rd & 4th- Oscar Dominguez $80., Tang Hoa $80.

Nick showed a lot of heart in the semi-final match with Tang Hoa. Tang was rolling along and had built a pretty large lead but, unfortunately, missed a key ball and Nick stepped up and put on a show that impressed all those that were watching. At one point Tang only needed 9 points to win the match and Nick still needed over fifty points and Nick came back and won the match. The Railbirds were even stunned.

Obviously, with only 20 players we only paid out the top four. With a full field, we will be able to payout the top 8.

Please spread the word, I would like to see a full field next month and the months to follow.

Thank you for your support, I hope to see all you Straight Pool Enthusiasts come and play.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or phone.

Thanks again,

Not that I would make it to the final but what time did the tournament start and end?

Thanks, and glad to hear it went well.

Because there was a mix up on the tournament start time, we didn't get started til 1pm and the final ended at 1030pm and this included 4 byes in the flow chart. With 20 players, I calculated that it was kept at a pretty good schedule. With the 4 byes this made it 5 rounds of Straight Pool.
