In memory of long time action lover, stake horse and gambler Bobby Stocks who was a very successful business owner that resided in Sterling, Virginia. He was also from North Carolina and Florida. Bobby was 62 years old when he past away. He was well known all over for his high dollar action state of mind. The man was full of gamble and just loved being around it and being a part of it. Now a 9 ball tournament has been formed in his name.
Bobby Stocks Memorial 9 Ball Tournement is scheduled for July 29th and 30th. If we have a field of 64 players or more the house will add an extra $1,000 to make it a $4,000 added event. Plus there are more locals and long time friends of his that want to add more money. this is gonna be a well paid tournement for sure.
Format is double elimination race to 9 on winners side and race to 7 on losers side. Final match is one race to 11. Same rules as the Tiger/Planet Pool Tour. Entry fee is $62. $2 is taken out to be donated to a heart disease foundation. It is going to be held at First Break Cafe in Sterling, Va. The room opens at 10 am that saturday morning and the players meeting is at 11 am. Please do not be late. Player auction at 11:30 am. Match play starts ASAP. Note -(20% of player auction money donated to a heart disease foundation). For questions about anything call (703) 606-7564 or (703) 444-2551.
We are also proud to announce that this tournament will be ran by the Tiger/Planet Pool Tour Directors Nick Prinslu and CeCi Strain. This is going to be a wonderful event so come out and enjoy the action and good food with us at First Break Cafe.

$3,000 added Bob Stocks Memorial Event

Just to let everyone know that this is now a $3,000 added event, and if we get 64 players or more, another $1,000 will be added. The event will be run by the Tiger Tour, but this is not a points event.

And in case there is any confusion: this is not a fundraiser event, so all monies will go towards the prize fund. The total prize fund is expected to be almost $7,000 with a first place payout of about $2,000.

Hey, guys, I'm disappointed not to be there in Sterling this weekend. I know the whole gang will be in full force, and there's going to be a good time to be had by all.

BTW, I ain't seen Mike Davis here in Vegas after Round One. So there's a good chance, if he did come back home, he'll be in the house.

Hoping to read all about the festivities right here on AzBillards. So don't be shy about posting. Pictures would be nice too.

UGOTACTION, good luck to you. I know you're going to play well on your home turf. Big Jerry is supposed to be arriving in Vegas tomorrow, from what he told us before we left. He's going to play in the $10-million poker tournament being held at the Rio.

11.) DRESS CODE
All players will be expected to be dressed respectably. No sweat pants, sports shorts, torn jeans, T-shirts, or tank tops (men), unless it is an official Falcon Cue or Planet Pool 9-Ball Tour T-shirt. T-shirts my be worn underneath a sweater. Players may be refused entry into the tournament, and will not be allowed to play in money rounds on the final day of the tournament if dressed inappropriately.

I doubt that the dress code will be enforced since it's not a Tiger Planet Pool event. Nick & Ceci were kind enough to agree to run this tournament but that's as close as it gets to the tour itself.... If I'm not mistaken. I could be wrong on this but I don't really see why they would enforce a dress code for this event... ;)

Hi All!

News from First Break Cafe...

It felt like 90+ degrees in the room and humid! No dress code at all.

43 players. BJ Ussery and Adam Smith came from down south. Tony Ruberto came from up north. Mike Davis came back from Vegas. David Hunt, Larry Kressel and Chris Futrell came from Virginia. Local Sterling guys Brandon Shuff, Pooky Rasmeloungon and Ryan McCreesh were in. Shaun Wilkie and Brett Stottlemyer finished 1 and 2 last weekend on the Tiger Tour and were ready to go.

The player auction came in at just over 2 dimes with 25% headed to a heart charity in memory of Bob Stocks. Mike Davis and Brandon Shuff were the 2 blind bids with BJ Ussery going very high.

Turned out the player auction bidders got it all wrong! Davis fell to Ruberto 9-8 in a sloppy match. Jim Henson and Shuff went down to a sharp shooting Adam Smith. Shaun Wilkie sent Ussery to the one-loss side where he's still fighting it out.

The chart is down to 12 players. Winner side is:

Chris Futtrell vs David Hunt
Stefano Araviakis vs Shaun Wilkie
Tom Wirth vs Tony Ruberto
Brett Stottlemyer vs Adam Smith

The 4 one-loss players are:

Yours truly - Andy Lincoln
Pooky Rasmeloungon
BJ Ussery
winner of Shorty Henson and Jeff Adams

Ruberto was trying to drum up some business as we were leaving. Not sure there were any takers.

More tomorrow!
Andy

'Twars definitely a steamer in that place. Before the majority of the folks got there, it was comfortable and I saw the owner go and turn the AC lower. He must know something! Not that it helped!

I got the a$$ whipping of 2006. BJ Ussery beat me 7-0 in a race to 7. He made 61 balls, I made 2. I actually made 3, but one was the white one:o . I guess that is that be-atch, karma, bringing it back around for me betting against BJ in an earlier round...I won that. (or maybe it is a payback for the 9-1 win I had against him last time we played;) )

ANd then there was Bill Stephen.

Out of those 43 players they had two women (Ellen Yu and Kim Sudler) and two teens and one pre-teen.

Chris Futrell just turned 16 this week
Richard Barney 14
Tyler adolini 12

The payouts were as follows...
1. Adam "GQ" Smith $1650
2. Shaun "get you some" Wilkie (more on that in a min) $1100
3. Tony Ruberto $725
4. Chris Futrell $475
5/6 Tom Wirth & Jeff Adams $325
7/8 Brett Stottlemyer & David Hunt $220
9/12 $130
Stephano Ariviakias
Pooky Rasmelougon
BJ Ussery
Andy Lincoln
13/16 $80
Jim Henson
Walter Koch
Ryan McCreesh
Stacey Sudler

The day started out with the following matches on the winners side...

Chris Futrell 9
David Hunt 3

Stephano Ariviakis 2
Shaun Wilkie 9

Tom Wirth 4
Tony Ruberto 9

Brett Stottlemyer 5
Adam Smith 9

One loss side 1st round was...

Andy Lincoln 1
Tom Wirth 7

Pooky 3
Brett Stottlemyer 7

BJ Ussery 5
David Hunt 7

Jeff Adams 7
Stephano Ariviakis 5

2nd round winners side...
Chris Futrell 4
Shaun Wilkie 9

Tony Ruberto 5
Adam Smith 9

2nd round one loss side...
Tom Wirth 7
Brett Stottlemyer 3

David Hunt 2
Jeff Adams 4

3rd round one loss side...
Tom Wirth 6
Chris Futrell 7

Jeff Adams 4
Tony Ruberto 7

The match for the hot seat came down to Shaun Wilkie & Adam Smith that match saw Adam win 9-5. Meanwhile Tony Ruberto was playing Chris Futrell and Tony dominated that match. I think Tony was still fired up about moving to the one loss side and I'm not sure what happened to Chris. Chris struggled that set.

The semi's came down to Shaun and Tony. Tony was ahead 3-1 in a race to 7. Shaun staged one heckuva comeback to win the set 7-3!

The finals was very one sided... The very 1st game Shaun had to shoot a table length bank on the 9... looked like it was going to split the pocket but then it rattled and hung in the jaws. The next time Shaun got to shoot at the 9-ball was when the score was 6-0 Adam, in a race to 11.

In the 7th game Adam played a weak safety on the one ball. Shaun made a beautiful crossbank into the side and ran out for the win. This seemed to be what Shaun needed but as he appeared to be getting back in stroke, he hooked himself on the 6 ball in the 8th game. He made a great jump shot to pocket the 6 but he left himself a table length bank on the 8 ball. I think that 9 ball back in the 1st game was playing on his mind. It took him awhile to decide if he wanted to go for it or not. In the end, Shaun went for the bank and missed.

The 9th game saw Adam with a very rare miss on the one ball and Shaun was able to run out the table.

In the 12th game Shaun played safe on the one ball and Adam made a good hit but he left Shaun straight in. Shaun ran out to get his 3rd win while Adam had 9.

Both players were at the table in round 13... Shaun rattled the one ball, Adam missed the 5 ball, and Shaun left himself tough on the 9 and couldn't pocket it. It rattled a little and came back out.

The last game was uneventful... Adam broke, made a ball, ran out. It was definitely Adam's day... he had a few balls rattle but they ended up dropping. He didn't play slow but he did play deliberate and smart. He was patient and kept his mental game in check. Couple the great play by Adam and the fact that the rolls just didn't go Shaun's way, today was not Shaun's day.

The women didn't fare too well this weekend but the kids did pretty good. Not surprisingly, Chris Futrell started day two on the winners side. Having talked to his mom a little last week, the kid not only has a cool, calm head for pool but he's also very responsible with his money and good in school. He's the whole package and it's nice and refreshing to see a young kid "on the right side of the tracks" in the pool world. I watched too many start start out on the wrong side of the tracks and never recover from it and end up living a very rough life. I see a very bright future for Chris Futrell, both in pool and outside of pool.

Richard Barney... I've said it before and I'll say it again... the kid is just a joy to watch. Sadly he finished before I arrived and was just one out of the money. 17th out of 43 with the calibur of players is fantastic. Like Chris, he's got a great mental game... better than most adults. When he misses (which isn't too often) he calmly walks back to his seat, shakes it off, and thinks to himself that he'll get it the next time. Very impressive for a 14 yr old. ;) He's another one that's got his head on right and has stayed on "the right side of the tracks". No gambling, no woofing, no acting ignorant (none of these that I've ever seen). He simply plays his game and if he's not in a match he's either practicing or sitting quietly along the rail watching the matches. LOL, I practiced with him and he'd run out a couple, then he'd feel sorry for me and let me win one or two. :p I was enjoying shooting with him but it became too hot in the room to do anything other than sit there and drink water.

I'm still learning about little Tyler. LOL, he's a straight shooting, free stroking bundle of energy! Always asking questions about pool and always wanting to learn more.

Did I mention that it was hot enough to break a sweat while just sitting on the sidelines spectating? The players were miserable, the spectators were miserable.... this is my 2nd summer visiting this room and they still haven't put a new a/c unit in there. It's horrendous! It's on the 2nd floor of a shopping center with large glass windows in VA...it definitely needs a/c!! They've got two nice flat screens behind the bar... I'd rather them spend the money on a new a/c unit. On the flip side of that, they do have GREAT food. VA and MD both have some pool rooms that have some of the best food for not only pool rooms but some restaurants even.

Thanks for the overview, Timberly. Sorry I couldn't be there. Maybe next time if I find my stroke somewhere...

Thanks for the update, Timberly, Walter, Andy, and others. I sure was wondering what happened and who won the event.

The funny thing about First Break in Sterling is that I've been there late in the evening, like midnight, and the joint is absolutely FREEZING. It's so cold that I have to go outside to get warm. I'm not sure if the owner is turning down the air-conditioner or if it's just that there are so many hot bodies inside. I have also been there during the day when it is very hot, and when it is hot as Hades, the tables play wet.

Sounds like y'all had a GREAT event, though. Wish I was there to see it unfold. I enjoyed seeing that Tom-Tom and Pooky made a cameo appearance too. ;)

I use to work on their air conditioning system. It is very old and not serviced until it breaks down. The have needed a new unit for about 7 years.
