Xiao Ting Pan Vs Yukiko Haminishi on now.

XTP makes 9 and scratches in game 1.

Haminishi 2-0

3-1 XTP lucky to get second chance in game 4

XTP looking very shaky- Her reliable break is gone- Whitey is going 3 and 4 rails- she is not hittin the one solid, something she is known for. Could be nerves.

4-2 Hamininshi

Going to bed-XTP's break getting better but far from her usual.

Yep. Haminishi leading 2-0. XTP scratched on 9 ball in first game

Now 3-0 XTP won safety battle, ran to 8 but then missed a pretty routine cut. Doesn't look confortable.

4-1. Pan missed a carom on the 9 and left it hanging .

4-2 Pan wins safety battle, runs out. In both matches so far, looks like players all having trouble getting used to speed on TV table. Very quick.

4-3. Haminishi misses easy 6.

Hill-Hill.

Haminishi wins 5-4. Pan scratched when making 3. Third scratch of the match for her.

Amway has really gone out of their way here to make everything comfortable including a big green room where they can get away from the large crowds.

Kelly Fisher vs. Wendy Jans

Scores: http://sport.videoland.com.tw/event/07_amway/default_002.asp

Game 1: Kelly wins the lag and elects to break. Good break with a ball down and a shot on the one. Only the 5 is tricky and rather than roll forward on the fast table she stuns the cueball to set up for a 5:9 combo. Drills the combo. 1:0

Game 2. Wendy breaks well and has a good shot on the 3 ball. The out looks good. Gets a little straight on the 4 but draws it perfects for great shape on the 5. She blows the 5! Kelly has an easy out. She overdraws the cueball a little and make the 6 a little tougher than it needs to be. No problem though and she runs out. 2:0

Game 3. Kelly breaks dry. Wendy has a shot on the 1 but no pocket. She opts for an open table safe. Kelly goes for a resafe and leaves Wendy a better opportunity to play safe. Wendy leaves Kelly a long shot where she can only see a portion of the one. Kelly plays a great two-way shot where she is safe of she misses and in good position if she makes it. She makes when the one caroms off of another ball to go in. Kelly makes the 2 bt leaves herself tough on the 3. She misses. Wendy still has a tough out from here. Wendy plays a great carom on the 3 and gets a little lucky on shape for the 4. Wendy plays safe. Kelly kicks at the 4 and scratches. With ball in hand Wendy runs to the six but leaves herself a tricky angle for position on the 7. She gets decent position on the 7 but she's shotting over the 8. She misses the 7 and Kelly cleans up. 3:0

Game 4. Wendy breaks dry. Kelly runs to the 7 easily but opts to safe on a tricky 7. Wendy can only see half a ball facing a table length reverse bank. But that's all she needs as she banks it short and uses table speed to make it like a veteran one pocket player. She gets decent shape on the 8 and then blows position on the 9, ending of very close to the 9. Wendy thins the 9 and leaves Kelly a very tough cut or a tough bank. Kelly goes for the bank and it's NOTHING BUT NET. 4:0

Game 5. Kelly scratches on the break. Wendy has a shot on the 1 but the 3 is locked up. She makes the 1 and opts to play safe on the 3. Good safety. Kelly escapes with a two rail kick that leaves Wendy looking at only a portion of the 3. Wendy plays and open table safe and Kelly is left looking at a long shot on the 3 with it in the middle of the table. Kelly nails it. The 5 is a little tricky but Kelly gets the right position and runs out. 5:0

A tough opener for Wendy Jans. Wendy did have the opportunity early to fire back at Kelly but she didn't capitalize and it didn't get any better from there.

A good start for Kelly "Kwik Fire" Fisher. Kelly is still hitting them solid with her Fury cue. She definitely lived up to her name in wasting no time to let the field know she is here to PLAY.

Amit breaks runs to the six. Shooting over the 7 she gets good position and runs out. She has the long stroke of the Filipino players without the flowery arm pumping.

Game 6:

Kao breaks has a good shot and begins to run out, has a little tricky position for the five. Overdraws the 3 getting position for the 4. Plays safe but leaves a long thin cut.

Amit to the table.

Amit slices it perfectly. For those interested she is definitely using Backhand English. Perfect shape on the five - stun shape for the 7 - runs out.

4:2 Amit.

John...thanks for the wonderful updates. You so rock and loved the description of the shopping center.

Kao vs. Amit

Game 7:

Amit breaks dry. All the Asian women are breaking from the same spot trying to make the one in the side. It works well most of the time and the one just barely missed on Amit's break.

Kao has made the one and gotten a little straight on the 2. The five looks to be tied up a little. She has gotten very straight on the 4. The five may be makeable. NO problem. A little too straight on the seven and she has gotten a little funny on the 8. Handles it well and gets perfect on the 9. 4:3 Amit.

Kao vs, Amit

Game 8.

Kao breaks and makes the one in the corner but all the balls cluster up and hook her on the 2.

Safetie are traded and Amit is looking at a tough safe on the two. She jumps a half ball over two blocking balls but leaves an open shot for Kao. The 5 and 9 are clustered and tough. Kao leaves herself tough on the 4.

Lost the train - Kao is at the table - runs out.

Amit vs. Kao

Game 9 - Hill Hill

Amit breaks makes a ball. Has an open shot but leaves herself tough on the four, slices it perfectly. Gets a little straight on the 5. Stuns it to set up for the 6. Makes the 6 - in line for the 7 - easy 8 and 9. Runs out 5:4 Amit over Kao.

Amit is the real deal. She can dab it. She has the fearlessness of the Filipinos and the effortless stroke.

Back soon.

Personally , I would love to hear how XTP's game goes. I understand she started shakily and didn't have her usual break working well.
Your reporting is a boon , John. Keep up the good work and please pass on my best wishes to Kelly.

Regards,

Lionel

Jasmin Oushan vs. Kelly Fisher

Scores: http://sport.videoland.com.tw/event/...efault_002.asp

Okay, the match between Kelly Fisher and Jasmin Ouschan was moved up so I covered that one.

And it was exciting!!

Game 1. Jasmin wins the lag and makes two balls on the break. Jasmin might have the best in the women's game. She slices the 3 in and gets good shape on the 5. Looks good for the 6 out but she overspins the cueball and hooks herself on the 7. She makes a great two rail kick and barely misses the scratch to leave Kelly safe. Kelly jumps the cueball out of the corner and make the 7 and gets perfect on the 8. 9 no problem. 0:1 Kelly.

Game 2. Kelly breaks dry. Jasmin is hooked on the 1. Pushes to the middle of the top rail. Kelly tries to play safe and lets Jasmin see the 1 but with no good shot. Jasmin plays safe. Kelly is left looking at a tough reverse cut on the 1. She makes it and ends up with a similar shot on the 2. Makes that and gets a good bump to get shape on the 3. She plays a perfect two rail kill shot to get in line on the 5. Kelly lines up a 7:9 combo and nails it. 0:2

Game 3. Jasmin makes 2 balls. Plays safe. On the other TV table Kim White wins 5 to 1 against S.H. Chang from Taipei. Kim looks very focused and is playing well. Kelly plays safe but Jasmin can and does play a better one. Kelly soft kicks at the one but doesn't get a rail. Jasmin overhits the 1 with ball in hand and gets dead straight on the 2. Cinches it but must take poor position on the 4. She plays a weak safe and Kelly can see the 4 for a decent shot. Kelly makes the four but the cueball rolls too far an hooks her on the 5. Kelly jumps and hits the 5 but leaves Jasmin a shot. Jasmin runs out. 1:2

Game 4. Kelly makes 2 balls on the break. No shot on the 2. Kelly plays safe leaves Jasmin a long tough combo or carom. Jasmin goes for the carom and scratches. Looks routine for Kelly. Kelly gets a little funny on the 7 which leads to 50 yard position on the 8. She overcuts it and leaves Jasmin a thin cut with the 8 hanging in the side away from the cueball. Jasmin makes it but gets tough on the 9. She hangs it in the corner, a gift for Kelly. 1:3

Game 5. Jasmin parks the cueball and makes a ball.. Has a shot on the one but there is a very tricky cluster with the 6,7,8. Makes 1 through 4 and bumps the 9 for shape on the 5. Cuts the 5 thin to get in a small area for the 6. Rolls about an inch farther than she wants but still has a thin cut on the 6 to the side. Make this and rolls the cueball down and back uptable for the ONLY place on the table for a shot to make the 7. Nails it and runs out. Great out. 2:3

Game 6. Kelly breaks dry. Jasmin can see the 1. Table has a few problems but Jasmin likes tough tables. Shows a nice touch to slow spin the cueball downtable for shape on the five. Leaves herself a little tough on the six and misses it. Leaves Kelly shooting over the 7 with a funny angle on the six. Kelly makes it but gets an off angle on the 7. She gets back in line and gets out. 2:4 BIG SWING here.

Game 7. Jasmin makes a ball on the break. Has a tough 1 ball. Makes it ans runs out finishing with a power draw into the rail and back out for shape on the 9. 3:4

Game 8. Kelly breaks dry and is clearly exasperated with her break. Jasmin is left with a tough cut which she makes and leaves a long two ball. She maes that and the 3 but gets too straight on the 4. She draws the cueball back to get shortside shape on the 5. But she is jacked up on the rail. She nails the 5 and gets funny on the six. Using the bridge she makes it perfectly and runs out. HILL HILL 4:4 with Jasmin breaking.

Game 9. What follows right here is what every pro dreams of. Jasmin drops 5 balls on the break and parks the cueball in the center of the table. She has literally 4 stop shots left. No problem and Jasmin wins 5:4.

Jasmin Ouschan has the heart of a champion. While Kelly's break clearly let her down in this match neither player really made any unforced errors. Jasmin deserves credit for hanging in there and fighting all the way for the win. Her win over Allison was no fluke, she is 100% player!

Right now in the opening ceremonies the vice-president of Taiwan is speaking to open the tournament. We could only dream of this sort of attention in the USA.
