Seems like a few dubious choices in there. OO over TH? Pat Holtz over...um, anyone I've heard of? There isn't a single American worthy of a position? Reyes isn't worthy?

I know what you are saying and this is not a exactly a list of the best players in the world.......but Pat Holtz is actually a good player and is a bit of a character which helps to sell TV in his group at 2006 WPC he won 3 of 3 and then got to last 16 where he lost to WU who is a class act so no disgrace there. In his group were 2 good players Santos Sambajon and Jose Parica.

I would probably have picked different but looking at some of the choices i think the organiser have used the WPC results as a guide.

I was a bit surprised by Naoyuki Oi of Japan, who missed qualifying into the last WPC. Though he's one of the top rated young players of Japan and deserves to be in that group.

Also, no Americans?

It looks like a second echelon event in terms of depth. Only a few players would be considered top ranking competitors. Wonder why so many top players were not included.

In looking over the list, about half are top twenty talent. And about half are not.

I imagine it's based on the World 9 ball results, hard to argue when some of the lesser known players did so well in arguably the toughest field in world pool...

1. David Alcaide (Spain) - 9th
2. Ronnie Alcano (Philippines) - 1st
3. Tony Drago (Malta)
4. Tyler Edey (Canada) - 9th
5. Thomas Engert (Germany) - 17th
6. Niels Feijen (Holland)
7. Pat Holtz (Scotland) - 9th
8. Li He-wen (China) - 5th
9. Imran Majid (England)
10. Naoyuki Oi (Japan)
11. Oliver Ortmann (Germany) - 33rd
12. Jasmin Ouschan (Austria)
13. Fabio Petroni (Italy)
14. Ralf Souquet (Germany) - 2nd
15. Nick van den Berg (Holland) - 33rd
16. Wu Chia-ching (Chinese Taipei) - 5th

Well one thing is for sure, I'm going and that's final. I'll make sure and write up a nice report of the tourney just like last year. I had a great time there, even though I agree the quality of the field isn't as high as last year (which would be tough anyway) but there are lots of great players in there and most of 'em I haven't seen play in person. So I'm excited anyway.
The venue is located beachside aswell, so.....

gr. Dave
