Hello all! It's that time of year again. It's hard to believe that this is the 5th VA State Championships. Everything is status quo as in years past but we have a new title sponsor this year. I would like to think Inside Pool Magazine for being the title sponsor this year. They are putting up the U.S. Open entry fee as well issues of the magazine for those in attendance at the event.

I look forward to seeing lots of old friends and faithful players to the event and can't wait to meet some new friends.

If you know of any poolroom who is interested in holding a qualifier for the event, have them get in touch with me.

Keep in touch gang and I will see you all soon enough.

Your answer is on the flyer...you do not.

C'mon, BB. Why you gotta be so mean?

Well, what am I supposed to do? Guy asks a question that is already addressed on the only post before his.

But you could have done it in a nicer way.

I was going to call him and read the flyer to him, but he did not post his phone#.

which i think is so stupid! if u let anyone play it would get alot of players and would be a good tournament. with only VA and DC players i think thats gay and unherd of. every state tourny i ever seen lets anybody play

I don't want to speak for JMD, but I believe he wants the state champ to be from Va. or DC, so they can represent Va. at the U.S. Open. I'm not totally sure why he included DC.
Entry to the Open is part of the first place prize.
If the winner were from another state, say Md. for instance, that player would not truly represent Va.

If I am wrong in my assumptions, I am sorry. However, the bottom line is, JMD is the promoter of the event, so he gets to make the rules.

Don't think you can be coming down here and robbing us Washingtonians and Virginians, Genie Man. ;)

We got enough young'ns with sharp eyes and expert shot-making skills to overcome. Us Washingtonians especially need a place to hang our hats. Joey Ryan may just do well in this tournament. He's been hitting 'em strong lately.

Y'all got your Maryland State Tournament up there at Big Daddy's in Baltimore. Besides, that's a better fit for you, my Yankee 14.1 pool champion. That's where you shine the brightest! :D

Hope all is well with you and the family. How old are the little ones now? Time sure flies by. I'll bet they're both cute as a button! :)

An explanation

Thanks Rich. To respond to Ryan's post, eventhough I shouldn't have to explain myself to someone who isn't worth worth a dime and every encounter I have ever had with him he has done nothing but show his a$$, I will though. Rich is correct, I chose to limit the competator's of the State Tournament to VA and DC for 2 reasons:

1) I feel that the State Champion should live in the state they are the champion of.

2) I included D.C. in the event because they are not included in anything. They are not a state, have no representation and cannot vote on matters involving them.

These are the reason's the tournament is limited as it is. For all of those who are offended by this, even the ones who do not deserve it, I apologize for that.

Possible Champs this year

My money is on Brandon Shuff to snap this one off.

Creole:

That's not a bad choice. He is definitely in the top 5 of having a chance to win. Here they are in no particular order.

Brandon Shuff
Matt Clatterbuck
Larry Kressel (Last year's champ)
Chris Futrell (won the Open Division in Valley Forge this year)
Eric Moore

Then there are about 7 more guys behind them that if they are hitting them good, they could knock any one of these guys off.

Should be a fun and exciting tournament this year.

You can put me in the other half of the bracket then.:woot:

What if I'm a legal resident of Texas, but I live in VA and have for the past two years? I own a house in VA. I'm in the military, if that helps explain things.

How about Chris Loar? Is he playing this year? Definately can't count him out.
