2009 World Ten Ball Champ still unpaid!

Player Association

This is an open invitation to discuss the current state of affairs in payment to pool players.

As most of you know, the US Open 10-Ball takes place at the BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships - all of which starts on the 14th of May at the Riviera Hotel and Casino.

I would encourage anyone that wants to discuss the options of forming some kind of player's associations to come and talk to me. I will be easy to find (I'll be everywhere!! lol).

I don't have the answers but would be happy to contribute. I know that I put a lot of time and money into this sport and hate it when an event does not pay as advertised. This is a black mark for the whole industry.

For those that remember, it was 2 years ago that I 'bailed out' the players for non-payment of the event in Arizona. It seems like some of these things have not changed much. That is not acceptable. Complaining does not solve the problem - but it does make everyone aware of the problem. The answers can be complicated - and it is not as simple as 'escrow' account.

If a group wants to get together, just give me a call and we can set up a time frame. It will be difficult for me to make appointments until we are on site - so it would be best to talk to me at the event.

Good Luck.

With that WTBC having been a WPA sactioned event last year and the players not getting paid, how do they go about getting the rights to stage this event into another, better promoter's hands? So it could be staged somewhere else. It doesn't look to be on this year's schedule.

Thanks.

it's always a business proposition

Sure be mad at the promoters who didn't pay off. Everyone would agree with that. But people need to look at the root of the problem to solve these things.
Generally con men succeed if their marks are greedy or desperate.

A pool tournament is going to pay off $200k or so. Really? Look at the business proposition. How is that possible? Buy this penny stock you're going to make millions. Wow that won't happen. But the first people who buy the stock might make money..That's what the con men bank on. Greed.

Some pool players being desperate for money and knowing that it's possible they could get some money if the music stops and they have a chair take the chance. And some of them did make a score. So you think it won't happen again? The pool culture grew up in the backroom and robbing you expect people not to try it. Just don't be a mark. So save the outrage. Create strong biz propositions. Get the hustlers out of the sport.
Unfortunately that means some of the players too.

What the F is going on lately? This is not an isolated incident. I really hope organized pool hasn't fallen into the hands of the slimy and greedy. It's sad that a man can't even get the paycheck that he earned.

Pool? Slime? Greed? Say it ain't so.

Does Players have some sort of union or something? I thought that in the USA there usually is a body that takes care of such things.

What does the sanctioning body do again? Besides collecting sanctioning fees. I think they are equally liable!

Maybe some sort of punitive action should be taken against these creeps!

Wasn't there a PPL (Professional Pool Players Association) yrs ago? BTW - was everyone paid off from that Galvaston Tournament as payouts were reduced from what was originally advertised.
